Has nothing to do with the platform. By the time I played it in Orange Box (which I also didn't get immediately after release), it felt dated, maybe nostalgia helps, but I don't know.

Hint: People don't all have the some opinions.

Valve head Gabe Newell has responded to growing demand for Half-Life 3 information, claiming Valve's now aiming to have its games more "baked" before announcing them.
Speaking to Penny-Arcade following a fan campaign for information on the next Half-Life, Newell admitted Valve's "acutely aware of how much we annoy our fans" with lengthy dev times.
He explained: "It's pretty frustrating to us when we put them into that situation. We try to go as fast as we can and we try to pick the things that we think are going to be most valuable to our customers".
He added: "we recognize that it's been a long time whereas we have so many games that people really love - Counterstrike, Half Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, not a whole lot of Ricochet enthusiasts out there, and at the same time we want to be making sure that those games and those stories and those characters are moving forward while also making sure that we don't just get into terminal sequelitis."

Just focus on Half-Life 3; that's all anyone really cares about. wheee.gif

You keep bringing up strawman arguments that have no bearing on what I said. Just because other makers/developers/whatever do it doesn't mean Valve should be allowed to without taking heat. With the praise that gets heaped on them you would think they'd be perfect, but they are not. You have yet to show how anything I've said is untrue. Also, if you're taking that long to beat the HL2 episodes then you are ridiculously slow, so you can't use that as a point either. It takes a couple hours tops.

What are you talking about? You were presented with a solid list of arguments and now you get passive-aggressive? I am sorry but you wrong.
Yeah, let's go with that. thumb.gif

To be honest I don't see why people obsess over valve games in general. Portal and Portal 2 were entertaining but it wasn't like OMG LULZ GLADDOS/WEASLY U SO FUNNY like I see so many posts make it out to be. Left for dead is pretty much the same to me too. Its good for like a few levels but I don't see the obsession people have.

Thats you're problem, you played Half-life on a console.

Ambiguous answer, but yes, they are working on HL3.

CS:GO and Dota 2 are done, for the most part, so like I said previously, what else could a majority of the dev team be working on since Portal 2 was released? Nothing else was put in place and Valve would have said something if they were making anything else. The silence is actually helping prove my point further. wink.gif

CS:GO is far from done actually. They have a dedicated team for CS:GO and Team Fortress as well.

The teams aren't as big as you think they are. I'd guess around 3 for TF2 and maybe 10-15 (if that) for CS:GO, the group that's also working on Dota 2, and the couple people working on L4D2 and maybe a few map builders working on some unannounced Portal 2 DLC. Of course these are just estimates, don't know the exact numbers, but that's still only a portion of their development team.

Considering both CS:GO and Dota 2 are in working betas, a majority of their development are done. Sure they're no where near public release, but they don't need that many people when the game is in a working state.

There are only a few possible options for what they could be working on next: Half-Life 3, Left 4 Dead 3 (HOPE NOT!), Team Fortress 3 (rare chance), Portal 3 (doubtful) or a completely new concept. Half Life 3 is really the only logical option, unless they are truly working on a new concept and pushing HL3 for 2013.

Which, by the way, reading some of those profiles are very hilarious!

I realize this, I've been to Valve's headquarter before (2009).

Currently about 6 people in the TF2 division. Around 8 for CS:GO, I can't remember the rest of the numbers. Heather was just there less than three weeks ago.

Valve has a very good relationship with the competitive community currently as well.

It sounds like they have a healthy, socially responsible corporate culture. It reminds me of my own office if it had pinball and professional massage.
