I hold no allegience to either company or console....we'll see what the launch is like, everything until then is speculation........as I recall, 360 had a rather bumpy launch itself, related to overheating as well as other defects......

However, it does seem like Sony is getting behind the 8ball. Launching so late after the 360, much higher price, rumors of severly limited supply.....not a good start

I read somewhere that SOny were actually holding off the launch until IBM had further developed a microprocessor capable of about 500GHz super cooled and 200-300GHz at room temperature, however I have no idea if that was only a rumour. But IBM is definately developing a chip that runs at that speed.

Those are analog chips used in communictions systems. CPUs are digital chips and have a completely different design.

yea, this hasnt been a good year for sony at all. it seemed to me at the start like the 360 vs PS3 would work just like the PS2 vs Dreamcast. As dreamcast had a year ahead. Yet sony still beat them somehow. And i thought with sony's fanbase it might be this again. But maybe sony will be soon to follow in sega's footsteps with this one. As one of you said tho this is all speculation.

To be honest though, i hope that PS3 picks up, but just enough so that it and 360 are in stiff competition. Because that means we get better deal. Otherwise microsoft have the monopoly cos lets face it. The nintendo will be the second console people will buy ya know, less of a priority.

I guess only time will tell

Finally - actual user data

OK. Here's the independent, non-Sony approved truth. We've played a PS3, for a day, in a room, with it on a table in front of us.

So, the PSM3 independent verdict here is that - quote - "PS3 generates less heat and noise than the combination of 360 and powerbrick".

That could just mean that the fans dont push out that much heat in order to make less noise. I can turn down my case fans - and yes its quiter and less heat gets exhausted, however, component temps (CPU, GPU, NB, PWM) will go up. Which would explain why the PS3 was so susceptable to the higher ambient temps of the the trade show.

Consoles are more like laptops in terms of heat. Whether the fans are pushing enough heat or not you can tell when a laptop - or a console - is getting hot. In such an enclosed environment the case temp is a much better indicator of the core temp than in a larger PC case. While I may be wrong - if the heat was there they would have felt it
