Gaming laptop enquirie

Hello
As a newbee I have been looking around this excellent community of passionate people, I have learnt a lot but so much is still to understand...
At first I wanted to collect infos to build my first rig (mostly gaming) as a desktop. But now I wonder if a laptop couldn't do the trick as well.
Here are my requirements:

- Play latest games without too much compromises on my 50'' plasma tv. (wired or even better, wireless)
- SSD drive
- Some basic editing
- No more than 14'' screen ( preferably around 11'' )
- Decent battery time
- As silent as possible
- Backlight keyboard

I have been through Alienware and Digital Storm website, but I suppose I could do the same or even better by myself with a little help...

Oh yes, budget....let's say around 1500$.

Thank you.

14" And gaming 1080p? That is going to be hard to find. The Lenovo Y470 has a GT550m which is decent and could play games low settings at that res. The Y470P has a 7690m which is about 10% better than the 555m. I know they are going to release a Y480 soon which will be even better. But beyond those, there is not really many extremely powerful sub 15" gaming notebooks. ASUS has a couple 14" laptops with the newer GT 630m which is basically a 540m. Alienware is going to be your only backlit gaming laptop in that range.

I was just like you, trying to find a powerhouse under a 14" screen, I bought a Y470 with an i5 and a 550m, but it did not run games like I had hoped.

If you want something that can really pump out the games and not even hick up go here and add the 6990m, its $100 off right now, so its a really good deal.

I agree with the guys above.

The term 'Gaming' is more loosely applied to Laptops than it is desktops.

Basically meaning, you won't be expecting the same gaming performance for the money as you get on a desktop of the same price.

Yeah, thats basically it, it took a while for me to realize that if you want a laptop that is going to game like a desktop you have to pay twice as much.

But the m14x would probably be your best bet under 14".

I see.
I figured it would be hard to find. Although I am ready to spend more on a laptop than a desktop for gaming.
For the record I have a 720p TV, I don't know if that really changes much.
On the M14x, would noise be an issue?
Thanks

At that size and with mobile GPU, I would expect a 1366 x 768 screen but he probably wouldn't get a backlit keyboard.

Well 720p, those laptops I mentioned will play just fine. Only the Alienware will get you the backlit keyboard, but I think that machine is ugly as crap.

I guess the backlit keyboard is not as important as the rest.
I see the 15'' Y580 is due soon as well.

Thanks for the infos.
