[MSN] Phone companies lose $400 for each iPhone sold - Page 5

*whine* Apple *whine* ethics *whine* ripping people off *whine*

Please, for the love of god OCN...stop it! ohno-smiley.gif

People only post Apple news stories here to start lame Apple-flame-baiting. Pretty sad to be honest.

I don't think they rip anyone off anymore than any other company named Apple.

so your 200 dollar iphone is now 800 bucks. Since you want dirt cheap service.

I don't know where your hostility is coming from. The business model that's used in the rest of the world is my preferred way to do business. You pay for the service separately from the phone. This means that handset mfgs can make the phone that they want to without interference. If that means paying full price for a handset, so be it. The tacked on $200 that you made up is utter garbage.

Sadly there are people who simply aren't as savvy. I deal with these types on a daily basis. I had a customer yesterday ask me for the "Dolby Digital" dvd while looking at a stack of blu-rays behind me.

People are clueless.

Phone companies have been making crazy profits in the last 4.5 years since the iPhone came out. I fail to see the problem...

When something is in demand, a company can comfortably lower their profit margins per unit sold in order to get more units sold at a lower price point. They then recoup those costs through contracts and other services that the buyer is inadvertently locked into upon purchasing their device.

Since the iPhone is such a hot item, Apple can discount it deeply because they know that 95% of the buyers are going to pay back into their services. At the end of the day, Apple makes a lot of money selling their devices for dirt cheap and undercutting the competition.

Why dont they just stop selling iPhones, and offer Android handsets with a cheaper rate? Why does everyone have to bend over for Apple?

Because iPhone handsets are extremely profitable... just not upfront. Again, if carriers weren't making a profit, they would not be selling the product.

You pay less for a Branded, probably locked iPhone bound on a beautiful contract that forces you to pay fixed amounts for 18+months !!!

The iPhone is not actually yours !!!!!

Grow up as a consumer and avoid contracts at any price !!!! ......
