I don't know where your hostility is coming from. The business model that's used in the rest of the world is my preferred way to do business. You pay for the service separately from the phone. This means that handset mfgs can make the phone that they want to without interference. If that means paying full price for a handset, so be it. The tacked on $200 that you made up is utter garbage.

Sadly there are people who simply aren't as savvy. I deal with these types on a daily basis. I had a customer yesterday ask me for the "Dolby Digital" dvd while looking at a stack of blu-rays behind me.
