Molex Pin Crimping Help

I am looking to create a custom molex cable that just has a single connection going from my modular Seasonic X-1050 to my fan controller, but anytime I try to crimp the pins linked below to 16 gauge wire using the MDPC-X crimp tool, the pin always turns out flattened and terrible. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I've done several ATX pins on 16 gauge with no problems.

Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I think that crimp tool is only meant for EPS pins.

I use a Molex brand crimper for making the Molex Pins.

Duh. Yeah, sorry.

This is the pin for 8980/8981 Series:

http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0002081201_CRIMP_TERMINALS.xml

The tool required to crimp the 8990/8981 is this:
http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0638117000_APPLICATION_TOOLIN.xml&part=active/0002081201_CRIMP_TERMINALS.xml

Which is different from The Mini-Fit Jr. (ATX/EPS Pins):

http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0039000038_CRIMP_TERMINALS.xml

That requires this (which is the same crimp  die dimension as MDPC):

http://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0638190900_APPLICATION_TOOLIN.xml&part=active/0039000038_CRIMP_TERMINALS.xml

You can try decreasing the ratcheting pressure and keeping the pin flanges further out.

Hope that helps.

I guess im confused because sites like frozencpu and mdpc-x dont mention the 2nd tool. what about it is different than the mdpc-x tool (i own the frozencpu one too, thinking one may do a better job, but no luck with either) than the tool you mentioned? Have you used it? I don't mean to question your suggestion, but make sure it works as well as I hope.

Np. Yeah I have the Molex brand, but I also have the Frozen CPU one and I know that works in the largest hole if you dial down the ratchet power. Can you post a pic of both the bad crimp as well as the ratchet position?

I can try. If I can adjust the ratchet, that would be best. Since I have 2 tools, I can do molex with one and ATX with the other.
