Is My Switch Dead?

Thread Starter
I bought a Trendnet TEG-S8G switch for my LAN party. I've had it for 2 weeks but didn't test it. Yesterday I was testing all the ports to make sure they were working. I tested by plugging in the Ethernet cable from the back of the router to each of the ports at the back of the switch. Ports 1-6 worked. The router and switch both showed it worked since the LEDs were green. Port 7-8 didn't work though, since the router LED and Switch LED weren't on. Does this mean that those 2 ports are dead? My router is a Netgear WNDR3400 with the latest firmware.

Ya, plugged in my router to switch with port 1. Port 7 and 8 were each tested with both of my computers (in sig). None turned on the LEDs.

Well from the title of the thread i was going to suggest checking for a pulse thumb.gif

If it is a managed switch and you bought it second hand it may have some port security still enabled, if not then check the metal prongs inside the port they may be bent or something. If not then i think its dead.
