I completely agree with you. I did have it all divided in paragraphs I'm not sure what happened

I do have all the latest crossfire patches and what not though. If I can't download it with my home ISP I use my iPhone and copy it to my computer.

Btw I use wild blue Internet. 512kbps ftw! But I'm lucky if I see half that.

EDIT: I have been using radeon pro. It's really helped, but I still haven't been able to even really use crossfire. Like I said, skyrim is unplayable. I even tried it with messed up menus and I was getting worse performance. Gta did get a slight performance bump with cfx though. My max fps didn't increase but my min fps did. Too bad I don't have sound! As far as I can tell the only way to really fix that is to format windows. If I need to do that I will, but I really hate putting in all that time. I've already put in so much time to this giant headache. I just want random violence at 5760x1920 @60 fps. Is that too much to ask D;

Actually modding gta has been the easiest part of the whole deal.

Using Offline Mode on a PC.

Please follow the instructions below to configure Offline Mode on your PC:
Start Steam online - make sure the Remember my password box on the login window is checked
Verify that all game files are completely updated - you can see the update status for a game under the Library section (when the game shows as 100% - Ready it is ready to be played in Offline Mode)
Launch the game you would like to play offline to verify that there are no further updates to download - shut down the game and return to Steam once you have confirmed that the game can be played
Go to Steam > Settings to ensure the Don't save account credentials on this computer option is not selected
From the main Steam window, go to the Steam menu and select Go Offline
Click Restart in Offline Mode to restart Steam in Offline Mode
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555

Note: the Steam client needs to update once in a while, but once updated will work offline without issue.
Set in Steam options to not auto-update game files.

Cheers.

The only fix for skyrim Eyefinity for the latest version doesn't work very well. All I can do is wait.

You live and you learn. PC gaming is far superior to console gaming. But it comes with a price.

All of your problems can be fixed, it's simply a matter of knowing how to fix them. Once you know how to fix them, you will always know (hopefully).

Good backups are also highly suggested. Especially after a clean install. Then install what you want and make another separate backup. After using it for a while if you decide to install something else, revert to the backup first, then install it. Then back it up again after you are sure you're keeping it. The idea is to keep your computer as clean and optimized as possible. Then if you ever have a problem, revert to a backup. It will solve 99.9% of every computer problem you will ever have further down the road (after everything is working right).

So, once you get your Eyefinity working as expected, make a backup...

Oh, and use separate drives for the OS and your personal files (pics, videos, etc...) This way you will not lose them when you revert to a backup of your OS.

Notice the word backup in there? It's key. Unless you like to fix the same problems over and over...

IMO, you should have taken it a bit slower and started with one monitor and one graphics card and got accustomed to Windows and computers in-general. If your new to computers I can easily see how troubleshooting CF and multi-monitor issues would send you back to thumbing quickly.

I don't use Steam, partly out of practical reasons, partly out of principle. I do miss out on some games I might otherwise enjoy, but there are still plenty out there that do not require Steam or an equivalent.

Agreed.

PC gaming is second nature to me, but I've been doing it since the early 90s. I can see how going straight from consoles to a more complex PC gaming setup could be discouraging.

I did start out small. I didn't get my new monitors until the beginning of January. And I only got my second 6950 Saturday. (if you're reading this UpgradeSolution I'm not mad at you I love my new card!)

I'm fine with having to modify things to work but there are sometimes when I just want to play! It's really frustrating. And I'm not new to computers either. I've been using windows 7 for about three years. And before that I used vista and before that xp. I know how to get things to work for the most part just sometimes I wish they would work from the beginning. That's really how it should be. I heard saints row III has good Eyefinity support and cfx support. I think I'll get that but I don't think I'll like it as much as gta iv.

I understand completely all your points and I'm not here to disagree with you.

Just paid 550 for a 7970 and I don't even have that much money, I'm a college student. In fact it was extremely poor use of judgement to buy it and coming from a GTX 480 I really didn't need it all.

But when I fire up Crysis 2 in all it's maxxed out glory or play 64 player BF3 in all it's glory or jump out of a plane in Just cause 2 at 1080p all that regret goes away. I have a PS3 as well and games like Uncharted 3 and Killzone 3 look great for the hardware but there is nothing like a maxed out PC game with perfect image quality. These games while in screenshots look comprable look like garbage comparititvely when you get right down to it.

Anyway point is if you really start to sink your teeth into it fixing your games and configuring INI files to make your game just slightly better slowly become part of the fun as a PC gamer and when it's all working right there is nothing in the gaming world like it.

Also I bought Saints Row on saturday and while it doesn't hav ethe Oscar worthy story of GTA (HURRR) it's just as if not more fun to play.

GTA IV is a horrible bug fest on PC. Also console games don't always "just work" either as Skyrim and other Bethesda games have shown. There are a lot of PC games that work beautifully out of the box with any semi modern computer. And thous that don't you at least can do something about it.

Edit: As jtom320 said over time the tinkering can become part of the fun especially ones you start to pile on the mods. I have a very heavily modded install of Oblivion (it runs like crap now biggrin.gif) and as odd as it sounds I have lately had more fun tinkering with it then actually playing it kookoo.gif Still I can relate to the frustration and the want to games just work. Its all just part of the PC experience, cant have the good with out the bad I guess.

Any suggestions for new games? I love sandbox games. I think I will get saints row now that you say it. And I pulled out portal two again and it's giving me faith again. Opened it up works perfectly without any tweaking. Getting like 110-120 fps. Oh yes! GTA V better work with crossfire and Eyefinity. I need it to!
