Can't go all out with computers it seems, you're bound to have a very expensive headache on your hands.
Fixing and breaking and fixing and breaking always led to what? Breaking. Over my years of PC gaming I've noticed a very particular trend which very few else seem to notice. Crossfire/SLI work in games that only really need it (Crysis, BF3, Far Cry 2, etc), and at that point it really only needs it at a monster resolution. Someone else stated on this first page of this thread and summed it up nicely, you jumped into the deep end. Lose the eyefinity, sell two other monitor, buy a joystick or a nice chair. Upgrade your audio equipment. Maybe you just don't like gaming with 1 image on three monitors. Why are you trying to force yourself to like it? confused.gif
Are you sure this sudden spark of interest in PC gaming perhaps developed into a much more complex interest, per say you like what a computer can do?
Or are you a balls deep gamer?
In regards to the thread title, yes I wholeheartedly agree, PC gaming is the biggest pain the ass I've ever ventured. (yep more of a pain than installing moms printer) I couldn't agree more that you pop in the xbox disc and it fires up and the graphics are "good enough". It's also the easier more cost/life effective option. But this PC gaming...it's like an abusive relationship, I can't get away from it, I love it too much.

Some of this is true but I do it for the mouse and keyboard. Seriously. I can't play shooters and most games with a pad, I feel mentally challenged trying to aim with those things. I also like playing my games on the same device I use to socialize, surf porn, email, do homework on, and rant on about how much life sucks. I'm a ,1 device for it all kind of guy I guess. ...but most of all I hate jaggies and hilariously flat textures like the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2.

Well I'll start off by saying that I'm very new to the PC gaming scene. I built my computer in October 2011 (when I joined OCN) and I got my graphics card shortly after that and began gaming. I must say, I am now about ready to throw in the towel. I got into PC gaming because I know there are so many more possibilities (better visuals, modding eyefinity ect) but now I'm sick of it.

The thing I'm most tired of? Steam. I absolutely detest Steam. I'm sure most people like it (and I probably would too if it wasn't so poorly executed). I have very poor internet so I can't play online games. I have come to accept that. But thanks to Steam I can't play offline games either. Genius idea. If I can't log into steam, I can't play games. And if my games aren't updated, I can't play either. But even if I had good internet, it wouldn't let me play outdated games. Like Skryim. That game is unplayable with eyefinity unless you have a fix for it. The fix I was using for a while was great. But then Skryim gets updated (thank you Steam) and the fix doesn't work. No more Skyrim. Games just don't work well with eyefinity period though and that is like the biggest reason I wanted to get into PC gaming. I don't see why game developers can't throw in eyefinity support really quick. If the consumers can modify the game to work with eyefinity, game developers can put it in from the beginning.

Next I'd like to talk about crossfire support. I haven't used crossfire much as I've only had it a couple days, but honestly, do any games work with crossfire? I haven't seen any instance where it actually helps. More often than not it hurts performance. Once again, if people can mod a game to work with crossfire why can't it be implemented properly from the beginning? I knew GTA had poor crossfire support but I didn't think it was as bad as it is. It was a struggle to even get to play GTA with crossfire and when I do get it to work I'm barely seeing any performance increase. And I lose all of my in game sound. I don't understand how that happens but its ridiculous.

I really miss console gaming, because I know that when I turn on my Xbox I will be playing a game properly almost instantly. I think the cons for PC gaming really outweigh the pros. If everything worked perfectly I would be more than satisfied but it doesn't. It's not like I'm doing any hardcore modding either, just adding hardware to my computer.

I would like to hear other people's input on this. I don't want to start a flame war or anything, I just really want to discuss this and see what others have to say.

Sometimes if it just keeps breaking, you are doing it wrong.

3. Put steam into offline mode, problem solved.
4. All of your problems are easily fixed if you would have posted about them here. If you aren't willing to put the time and effort into building, maintaining your PC and the games you play then maybe PC gaming isn't for you.

It's where I live. Satellite Internet is all we have. I will be going to college next year so hopefully I won't have to worry about the Internet anymore.

I did have steam in offline mode but I wanted to back up to the steam cloud (silly me) now I'm sol. I can't go into offline mode without being updated and I can't play without being updated. When I am updated I can't play. I'm really in a corner.

Don't tell me I didn't put effort into fixing my games. I have spent more time trying to fix my games than actually playing them. I have asked for help here occasionally and it's always been solved but I know there are something's that just can't be fixed. Like gta crossfire and skyrim Eyefinity. The only fix for skyrim Eyefinity for the latest version doesn't work very well. All I can do is wait.

Wow, you sound EXACTLY like my good friend Ben. He went through all the same things...he then moved into the city and now he grabs a solid internet connection that he then resorts to console gaming. UGH! lol

Idek what this is tbh. It says "completing install 0%" and never makes any progress. So I have to assume it needs Internet but why! The game is already registered to my account!

DRM = digital rights management

It's to stop people pirating games but it doesn't really effect the pirates that much. It only makes gaming worse for the people who actually pay for the game. These days developers assume that because you have a computer powerful enough to run their games that you have internet that is fast enough to download, install and activate the games over the internet.

No I know what DRM is, I meant I didn't know what steam was doing lol. I hate DRM. I bought a song off iTunes recently because I was on the go and I wanted to hear it, then my iTunes account was hacked. I thought everything was squared away after an email to Apple but now I can't listen to my purchased music because of their lovely DRM.
