OC Q6600 B3 to 3.4 Help!

Thread Starter
Hey all, long time lurker here at OCnet and have really wanted to upgrade the system lately, but unfortunately the funds arent there yet.

So i decided to have another go at OCing my old Q6600. I re-read through all the OC manuals on here and even read through some that were specific with my mobo, and I'm kind of stuck and need y'alls help.

What are some other steps I can take to make this thing stable for more than 5 mins on p95 small ffts? I really dont want to put more than 1.475v VCORE on this thing in BIOS as well as keeping my mobo in good shape as well, since I want it to last awhile (possible future htpc after my upgrade). Have i hit my limit with those parameters? Is it safe to go above 1.3v on the NB? How about the CPU termination voltage safe limit?

Try 2.00D on the memory multiplier since you're closer to 400FSB.

#1 you should use OCCT to test the CPU short-term. It's far more sensitive than P95 small.

Set MCH Core manually. You should start out around 1.2. If you want to see if your memory/NB Is holding, test with P95 Blend. If you're trying to use 4 sticks or RAM, that could be your problem.

1.47 is not dangerous for a Q6600. 1.5 is not dangerous if it's properly cooled. If your board has crap power phases, that's another story, but since it's a UD3 series board I'm assuming it's plenty strong.

yea like ache said ...and

for temp watching use realtemp, more exactly distance to tj is the real value of the temp from which the temp is calculated (based on tjmax you or the program has written in, u can change that value but i forgot the tjmax for q6600.. it was something between 80-90?! but look in the forum here is a tj max guide for 65 and 45 nm cpus)
look that distance to tjmax dont fall under 25/20.
one more thing, when testing ram stability use custom blend with over 2gb.. 2.5 or 3 for eg. this will help to make it more stable instead theese 1600 standard blend..
if ya alrdy now, nevermind.. GL (;

Alright, i have tweaked some settings and have run into something funky...
I can get all the way to 419 fsb with 8x multi 12 hours blend stable, and 12 hrs custom p95 stable, but the second i bump up to 420 fsb, it wont even POST. I have bumped up all voltages 2 bumps and still no boot. Whats the deal?

I had a b3 a few years back on a EVGA 780i ftw and the best I could ever get was 3.3xx ghz no matter what I did. I could boot at 3.4ghz but I would get bsod eventually. I think when I was on water (CPU/Mobo) I got 3.5ghz if i remember correctly. Your CPU might not be able to go any higher.
I would put the ram timings on auto. Tweak the timings once you get max CPU. Overclock. I wish I could help you but it's been a very long time since I overclocked on 775. What's is your cooling? Name/ type? Mobo cooling etc

I loosened timings. Typically when its on auto, its less stable, dunno why, just seems every time i change back to auto, i went backwards. I'll give it a shot though. Really want this 1ghz OC.

Cooling is megahalem with an ultra kaze on push (used to have push/pull, but too much weight and didnt affect temps. Mobo cooling is stock, feels slightly warm to the touch, but not bad when stressed.
So maybe I've hit my limit?

Why are you not using a 9x multiple? Your crapping out at 420 'cause I'm guessing you have DDR2 800, which will crap out right around 420FSB.

Use a 9X CPU multiple to keep your RAM in spec.

I am in the same exact boat. I've tried 3.4 as well but only got to 3.3. I will also try to troubleshoot some more at home today

I switched to 8x multiple after re-reading the newbie OC guide here. I figured, since im less than .1ghz off of my goal with both multipliers, i might as well have the one with the most fsb (to speed up the whole system according to the guide). I've got DDR 1066 as well so that shouldnt be a prob right? I'm still well under stock specs for my ram (timings and mhz).
