Hey Everyone,

I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet as I have a habit of typing walls of text sometimes:

I'm thinking about setting up a Home Server that could potentially do this:

1) Host 1 - 3 Websites.
2) Be able to host 2 - 4 Game Servers (COD4, Minecraft, Terraria and BF3).
3) Share Files on my Home Network.

My Budget would be around £600, when I upgrade my Main PC I can use the components from that for the Server(Check Sig for System, Except for HDD, Case, Op Drive and peripherals). I'm looking for something low power and Low Sound. I would also like the case to be as small as possible as space is an issue at the moment.

My knowledge isn't too great on servers but I can learn and have a few questions:

1) What OS would be recommended to run a Server? Ubuntu, Windows Server etc.
2) Can a server do the things I want it to? (Gaming servers can be run from my main rig if not possible from server).

3) What software would be useful for my server? Monitoring Software etc.

Interlagos are ok server cpus and they are only $539 for 16 cores but you will have to pay money for a decent cooler.

He doesn't need that as thats nearly his budget.

Get a xeon, mobo and server ram.

I will edit this later, where are you location wise? newegg or somewhere else?

Just throwing this out there: Minecraft servers need a ton of ram. Or, that's what I've been told at least.

I'm in the UK and mainly use: Amazon, AriaPC and Scan for my Components, But anywhere that can ship to UK and isn't too expensive for shipping is fine.

They do, depending on how many people you would like to run on it. 1-26 people 8GB, 26-44 people 16GB and so on.

easiest i think would be to find a dual xeon 1366 board and use 2 quad core xeons should come to round £600

O.O Would it be possible to get 1xQuad Core Xeon and get the Dual Xeon board so I can later get another quad core for it? then use the rest of money for a HDD/RAM etc.?
