i7 engineering sample???? confidential test chip?

hey everyone, i was offered a 900 series i7 ES engineering sample chip in a trade...

the owner claims its a test chip for intel, and is stamped " INTEL CLASSIFIED " on the chip, and claims they are made
with no overclocking buffers limits ( basically, all the saftey systems turned off ) to test the limits of the CPU.


I've never heard of such a thing, has anyone heard of this?


( offering an asus p67 sabertooth for the CPU )

Really depends on what stepping the engineering sample is. Which will be indicated with a letter code on the chip it self.

Yeah Intel Confidential chips are engineering samples. Usually companies get these chips for free to test compatibility. I have had a few go through my hands before. Sometimes the engineering samples actually have features taken away.

well, i was really going to try and trade the mo-bo for a cheapo sub $300 build for a workstation, but if this is something good and rare, i'll snatch it up.

Very true sometimes the production chip could have video support or oc;ing support that the eng samples don't depending how early the stepping is. Some are just as good as the production just look up the code my friend.

I'd buy it as long as it wasn't outrageously priced. At the very least, it's a rare collector's item.

Just don't go paying a lot for it because you think it's rare. Just look on eBay for Intel Confidential chips. They don't really go for much these days and seems like there are plenty out there in circulation.

I wouldnt pay any more then you pay for a used version of the chip its a sample of and i would make sure its factory stepping

as far as i know ES chips don't clock that high and posting any test results is against the policy,i say get the real deal when it comes out
