i860 P7P55D-E Pro OC Thread

Thread Starter
Hello,

I will be sharing the details regarding my setup and how far i can over-clock it while still keeping it stable.

I have searched around the web and find a lot of threads with my processor but not my mb - so this is why i am creating this thread here. I may even do a video for youtube as well.

Anyones input or direction would be great and appreciated.

My System:

i860
P7P55D-E Pro
120GB SSD (two more HDD's)
Kingston 16gb DDR3 1600
After-market heat sync
Antec High Current Pro 850
Antec AirBoy Case

Gonna take some pics and post up in 20 minutes of the system now before the OC attemps.

EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to change to a watercooled system (corsair h100). my max temp with running p95 was 70C because of the cooling system change.

Make sure to read this article:
New Article that worked for me

I managed to get my system to a 4Ghz with the below settings.

Things to make sure are done:
  • make sure your bios is up to date
  • make sure chipset is up to date

Bios Settings to be changed:
  • Disable - Speedspectrum
  • Disable - C1E Support
  • Disable - SpeedStep
  • Disable C-State

4Ghz
  • Multilpyer: 20
  • Bclck: 200
  • Vcore: 1.375
  • IMC: 1.375
  • Dram: 1.5

I had this motherboard. Really easy to overclock... but the board is meh not a good overclocker.

I used the Asus P7P55D Pro motherboard with an i5 750 and that overclocked very well. You should have similar results with your combo. I think the P7P55D-E Pro board is slightly below my old board.

So how far have you gone?Could you provide more detail of overclocking like BIOS setting, voltages (vcore,IMC) and temperatures?

Sounds great! Wanna share your details in bios?

What was your highest OC in a percentage vs your stock setup....?

Ie your Bus Frequency and CPU (Bclck & CPU)

I spent 12 hours on this yesterday and im back at it today. I didn't want to post anything until i had a few bugs sorted out (ie some stable settings).

I will repost in 1/2 hour with the results.

In the mean time, can someone help me out with the pictures? I have tons of pics the tests but if i post them, you wont see them clearly as stated above.

Thanks!

Okay here are my findings but i want to first start of by saying i have never done this before and have no clue about any thing....but now that i am finished, i have a basic understanding of how to OC a computer using the below article.

I began reading a dif. article to OC my PC and it made a lot of sense (it also was using my MB.

New Article

So anyway, my first step was to find out my max bclck number (i followed the instructions exactly from the above article- so read that article as i am leaving a lot of information out to keep this short).

My Bclck number and settings under stable conditions was as follows:

  • Bclck: 200
  • IMC Voltage: 1.375
  • Dram Voltage: 1.875 (exactly .5 higher then IMC)

To achieve these results, took some time and effort as there was a lot of manipulation of the voltage, bclck, and stability tests - 6 hours worth at least.

So now that i have my Bclck number, it is now time to play with the multiplier. I started off at 150 as the article stated and progressively went up until faced with stability issues, which then i would then increase my vcore voltage.

What i learned (most of you probably know this) is the more voltage, the higher temps you get, so it is crucial to follow the article instructions to a 'T' so you get the most efficient Voltage use with your multiplier.

Following system specs:

3.8ghz setting
  • Multiplier 20
  • Bclck 190
  • Vcore:1.27
  • IMC: 1.375
  • Dram: 1.875
  • P95 @10m 65C
  • INTEL BURN TEST @5m CPU TEMP 70C

As for the following options:

  • Speedstep
  • C1E
  • Hyperthreading
  • CPU Spread Spectrum
  • C-State

I had them all ENABLED aside from C-State.

All of the stability tests passed so i thought all was good. I went in to play some BF3 and the game would crash after a few minutes - i think this was caused to powersaving settings. So i went back in and turned off all the above options, the game then ran just fine.

4.0ghz setting
  • Multiplier 20
  • Bclck 200
  • Vcore:1.345
  • IMC: 1.375
  • Dram: 1.875
  • P95 @10m 70C
  • INTEL BURN TEST @5m CPU TEMP 82C

So in conclusion, I am running the 4ghz setup right now and everything is fine as expected but i do know it is not completely stable in terms of CPU heat. So i am just running the computer and keeping an eye on the heat. I am just using t his computer as a gaming computer so i dont expect to be stressing the system as much as Intel Burn Test or P95 - my logic is, if the computer holds up with these settings for a week with no issues or heat problems, its stable for me.

I would love to get 4.2ghz out of this but i will find that out in a week with how my temps do as 4.2 was way too hot too quick when i tried it out.
