Recommend a Rack

I'm trying to find a decent, compact and (here's the kicker!) affordable rack for my office.

I'm looking around the 24U size, and four post. I need it to hold:

  • 1 4U server case
  • 7 1U pieces of networking gear
  • Up to 2 more 2U servers
  • Room for UPS(es)

So if there's a good solution under (or slightly over) 24U that can accommodate the above, I'm all ears.

I don't have any brand loyalty, just looking for sturdy construction and affordability. No problems buying used. So I'm looking for suggestions on models/vendors. Craigslist in my area is barren, aside from $800 full sized racks, or mediocre 24Us for $700 which is out of the question in my mind.

I have two of these and they are a ROCK. Super solid, even before loading it up. I made two side panels and a top panel using sheet metal and rattle canned it. Looks pretty good, and is very cheap. I can take some pics of these if you wish.

I have a few of these 42U at my office and I really like them. They aren't as nice as the APC, Tripp Lite, etc, but for half the price they are amazing. Plus it's fully assembled.

 

Anyways, both are really sturdy and I am very pleased with the purchases. I think the first is a great fit for you as I have very similar hardware in one.

a cheap nice furniture looking idea im going with is the LackRack from Ikea once i can get to thier outlet here

i will be using them for 2 x 2U servers, 4 cisco routers, 4 Cisco switches and one Cisco RPS and have a spare LackRack for expansion.. can be configured/ arranged like lego lol smile.gif

Have you considered contacting some Company's inquiring if they have any spare racks available. I called around for a while then i found some old computer store with a server rack in it and they wanted to get rid of it cost free. So i said i would take it off there hands. But it all depends on the company. You could also construct one your self or look on ebay there are about 100 of them on ebay selling for pick up.biggrin.gif

I think the best value racks out there are skeletek

+1 for Norco, I have a case by them.

The rack in my basement is a used HP Proliant cabinet. Call some computer shops and see if they have anything.

If you were closer, I'd offer you the 42U rack setting in my parents' basement tongue.gif
