Altho in the case of Steam they would most likely just do a 250$ or 300$ PC thats able to play games at medium settings and connect to a TV set. Which is not that unreasonable. mATX or even smaller board, a budget dual or quadcore and ~ AMD 5770 level or nVidia equivalent hardware. Perhaps somekind of controller as well with mouse and keyboard as options. Main thing making it "console" would be the "console looking case".
Not particulalrly innovative tho.

Yeah... Alienware just did that tongue.gif

this is a really good idea actually..

a proprietary steam only device that plays (preconfigured) steam games, like a tivo or the onlive microconsole. the games could be optimized ahead of time to run on this device..

like a streamlined living room system

well since this article is not really about news or even rumors, why don't we discuss what a "console" from Valve would be like if one ever comes around?
Something along the lines of the recently released Alienware X51 but cheaper sounds like Valve. They could go for an integrated platform like with Trinity to make it more cost effective.

I don't see this ever happening. Why would they? There's a lot more overhead in hardware. Why not stick to digital downloads... so much easier to handle.

Never is long time. However, you are most likely correct that Valve has no interest of doing that in foreseeable future, as starting to deal with hardware is quite noticeable commitment. All the warranty stuff and having assembly lines (or someone to do the assembly for you and put your sticker on it) plus warehouses and customer support and so on and forth. So they would need some pretty strong motivational poking by the market conditions to jump on that branch of business in my opinion.

Why do the mods lock the thread with the real title, and not the thread with a completely wrong title?

Yes I know that is the title of the source, so use a different source written by someone who can read.

someone sounds bitter...

and there is nothing wrong with titling the thread the exact title of the article... That is the best way to title the thread
