gtx 460s in sli enough for 3d?

Thread Starter
Hi im thinking about getting a 3d monitor, but im unsure if my current pc will be able to run bf3, trine 2 , etc in 3d. I mainly will be playing bf3, and trine 2 in 3d.

also , if at all possible could someone give me general feedback on what its like to game in 3d as opposed to 2d. Do you use the 3d all the time ? or is it just a gimmick ? Does it help/hurt you at all while gaming ? Basically pros, and cons of gaming on a 3d monitor a lot .

Thanks

hmmm with a gtx 460 sli in 3d you should be able to hit 35~40 fps in bf3 (high settings), since 3d cuts the frame-rate in half your playing about the frame-rate of 1 card. But you might run into a vram issue since bf3 and 3d can be vram hungry from what i hear.

I personally havent had to much time with 3d gaming, but overall to me it seemed to be more gimmicky.. hmm wouldnt say it would make you play better but made things look a bit nicer tongue.gif For me its fun, but not something i would use all the time. As for my gf, she really doesnt like using/playing 3d gaming, since after about .. ~20 min it starts giving her a headache. But if you have a local store that has game demos, maybe see if they have demo set and give it a try smile.gif

Aww i see, thank you. Ya to be honest im looking for 3d to be a awesome, extreme change from normal gaming.

Im looking for 3d to really blow me away like...

Watching a 1080p bluray, when only ever have seeing regular tvs..analogy ?

I have seen the 3d set ups at bestbuy, but i really dont like putting my face up to glasses that thousands of people already have. IT looks cool, but i think you answered my question about the extended 3d usage. Im looking to pop my glasses on for 5+ hours of gaming, maybe watch some movies or w/e . I figured i would just get the monitor before i oped to buy a 3d tv, but i guess 3d is just a gimmick, that sucks...

It SOOO Sucks having this crappy pc.... Thats another thing, I like high settings for the pretty, if i have to lower settings everywhere to be able to run 3d, then i wouldnt be very happy playing the game.
