Console Yellowing

Hi guys.

So i've just purchased a starwing edition SNES:

Why? Nostalgia, plus i think i'm going to start collecting these old consoles that are relevant to my childhood.

Now why did i make this thread? Well this console i bought doesn't have any yellowing of the plastic (yet). And i wanted to ask: how would i go about preventing this from happening?

I'd keep your hands clean, don't smoke and keep it out of direct sunlight.

If it hasn't yellowed by now don't worry about it. I have a couple NTSC SNES's in somewhat extreme conditions and one yellowed really bad and one didn't. Most consoles affected are believed to be the earlier production SNES's.

This is a relief. Was expecting to have to wear white overalls, rubber gloves and a mask whenever i was in a nostalgic mood.



Does the NES suffer with a similar issue? I was originally going to try and get a NES instead but quite a few (With original packaging etc) were expensive. So got the next best thing while it's still (somewhat) cheap.

To some extent yes but nowhere near as wide spread as the SNES. I have 8 NES 001's and only one turned Yellowish.

I have two working NES's each with a copy of Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo cartridge with two controllers and a gun. Both are still nice and grey and in perfect working condition (aside from needing to blow on the cartridge the odd time). I never had a SNES though. I think I have my original Gameboy laying around as well with no dead pixels and also still nice and grey.

Then I was bought a NES either for my birthday or Xmas -- I used to play mario so much i'd have nightmares, no kidding.

Then migrated to the SNES, first played Starwing, Then all the other classics, mostly remember super mario world (And the cartoon - ah, saturday mornings) Mario Kart was cool too.

Good times, good times.
