And you'll find that there will always be someone else with a bigger e-peen than you, so either learn to live with it, or always be unsatisfied.

Why? you should be more than happy with a sli 580 setup as it runs everything perfectly well and will continue to do that for a few good years yet, which gives you time to skip a generation or two and save up for the best again when a 580 should start feeling a pinch of straining.

I have a feeling that the HD7xxx and GTX6/7xx series will come out with dx11.1 support (same as the last 2 generations) then the HD8xxx and GTX8xx will probably have a dx12 support by then and everyone will want to upgrade again even if they bought a 7 series card as they will feel they are missing out.

So, the Radeon HD 7950/7970 aren't high-end then, because this card is going to be competing with them by all accounts... and it's only nVidia's mid-range chip-wise.

Calling it mid range means nothing because GK100 got canned and the true card won't be out for a long time. GK104 will all accounts be a great price performer indeed (if the rumors are true), but this isn't what I expected from nvidia. They've never staggered their releases in such a manner, obviously they don't have a choice this time.

I still hope to be pleasantly surprised when actual reviewers get cards, we'll see.

But that doesn't make sense. So NVIDIA will release a card that is more powerfull than their top card, sell it for less and then wait 6 months before releasing a stronger one? That is cannibalism. They won't sell a single GTX580 in the meantime nor a GTX570. So NVIDIA will surely not do this. It's a big company with a huge financial department and marketing people. They're not stupid.

Everyone complains NVIDIA is over-priced, yet ATi does the same and "Oh, it's cool, it's -worth that price", but NVIDIA does it. "Greedy NVIDIA!"

Well, well, well said! 7970 is 15% faster or so, sure (it also is more expensive), but that's hardly impressive for 14 months late and on a new node. You also lose almost fully glitch-free/stable multi-card if you go to the 7970, whereas 580 sli is pretty much solid. Finally, you don't get Ambient Occlusion in a good number of major titles from the driver, which is a huge lighting/shadowing improvement, on non-nVidia setups.
