My audio is complete!!

Thread Starter
For now anyways. I live in an apartment so I won't need a sub since my speakers output enough bass to make me giddy.

These were my speakers when I first started out. I had bought my 467 and my pops had his Infinity's still so he let me have them

They were decent, sounded better...A LOT better than my Logitech G51's. They didn't have ANY low end to them though which I got through the sub my friend loaned me.

DSC_0083.JPG

Then after I did research and tested out speakers, I came home with 2 Polk Audio R150's. I used them a long side the Infinity's till I could get more.

2011-10-24+20.30.59.jpg

Then I added two more R150's to the setup

2011-11-01+22.51.42.jpg

As you can imagine, that poor little center channel was barely able to keep up with the polks....it was just way under powered.

Well I just came home with this baby!! Polk Audio CS10, got it for 160 at a local store ( I know the guy that works there and he's given me nice discounts so I have no issue with paying a bit more to support a company that's always treated me good).

2012-02-20+15.31.16.jpg

All I really need now is a sub, but I'm not even worried about it since the bass output of all these is astonishing, and it's a small area, when I get a bigger room or something I'll worry about it.

Yes I know, terrible place to put my monitor but it'll have to do till I get a Vesa arm.

And for the laptop:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329860120&sr=8-1

41FyZ0%2BpfKL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
And these guys will be here tomorrow for my laptop since it has a crappy audio chip in it.
http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Desktop-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B005C5IN98/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329860245&sr=1-13

300 for the Reciever.
About 250 for the 4 bookshelves
170 center channel
120 for the headphones (warranty included)
200 for the FiiO amps and stuff

=....MORE THAN I SPENT ON MY COMPUTER HARDWARE BRAND NEW!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-EDIT-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

FiiO E7 & E9 Combo: I have an Acer Aspire and using the onboard audio made me cringe. No sounds had personality to it. Just whatever the crap audio chip wanted it to sound like, muffled, farting bass, no personality to each key of a piano hit.

The E7 alone changed all that, the space they play in widens, the individual sounds come in clear, they sound exactly what they should sound like. To test I mainly listened to The Piano Guys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_772287&src_vid=DRVvFYppU0w&feature=iv&v=Ry4BzonlVlw

The E9 dock adds some extra oomph to it, I really like that high gain switch in the back, seems to bring the sounds to life even more and some other conveniences I don't have a lot of use for right now. If I remember correctly all the DAC is done on the E7 so really, if you're just looking for better sound, you only need the E7, the E9 acts as a bigger amp to push your headphones. I probably didn't need the dock, but it was a combo, I love gadgets and maybe I'll get use from it someday so meh.

My only 2 complaints so far is:

1) the torx screws on the back of the E7 protrude slightly, they way it was engraved for them, there's no resaon they couldn't have used flatter screws, but that's only a minor flaw and I mean MINOR, they give you the protective case as part of the package so it wont' even bother you, but that leads to my next gripe

2) The rubber glove it comes with it doesn't fit in the dock, you'll have to remove it each time you want to dock it which could prove to be a problem for some as it'll eventually case your screen protector to get messed up and have to replace it.

NOW ONTO THE PICS
The boxes

2012-02-22+14.06.53.jpg

The packaging was great, really thick foam encased the unit so damage wouldn't happen. If you could even damage to begin with, other than the front bezel and back, it's all brushed aluminum. The front bezel has the brushed aluminum look on the plastic. The knock turns really easily but with enough resistance to feel comfortable. Left side is 3.5mm and the one on the right is..uh...I forget the size...1/4"??

2012-02-22+14.08.57.jpg

All the extra goodies on the back to power speakers if you wish. Gain switch I've been leaving on as it just adds more noms to the sound. You can toggle it on and off.

2012-02-22+14.09.18.jpg

Comes with the Dock (duh), usb cord with the little filter thing on it, extra rubber dome feet and the power cord.

2012-02-22+14.09.53.jpg

The E7 wasn't as nicely packaged, was more like if you just got a new cell phone. It comes with the rubber glove already on it (you'll need to look at the buttons to know what each one does till you memorize it as there's no markings on the rubber. As you can see it's glossy as all hell. The letters "FiiO" light up red when you plug it in to the USB smile.gif

2012-02-22+14.10.39.jpg

Everything you get. The E7 which is all aluminum as well as the buttons are metal. I don't think there's any real plastic on here, all aluminum. I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't get a picture of it ungloved, I'll upload those if need be. Comes with the E7 (duh), body glove, rubber band to band it to your MP3 player (useless for android phones), the 3.5mm cable that has 1 straight end and a 90 degree angled end and the usb cable with the filter. The best part? The velvet? pouch it comes with to keep it nice and safe!

2012-02-22+14.12.12.jpg

The goodies all hooked up. Crappy image due to my phone and I don't feel like hooking up the charger for my DSLR.

Thanks! It's a desk I got off of craigslist for 75 bucks which blows my mind because it's not thin wood at all, it's thick as hell. I knew the brand once upon a time but I can't remember, I have found this same desk on craigslist around here like 7 times in a single month before though.

The upper hutch/shelving unit is one I got from another computer desk and just put it on top. With the center channel I just got though it takes up too much space and had to take the hutches down and put them against a wall.

I'll take pictures of the updated setup tomorrow. I have to have my monitor sitting on top of the center channel because it's so big haha, I need a vesa mount :|

Got my FiiO toys today. I was almsot going to skip it but I got unboxing pictures. I'll upload those in a bit as I have to go run errands right after I get done listening to some songs. Nice thing is, I watched some unboxing videos and the E7 came by itself and the cords, mine came with the rubber protector already on it biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I'll talk a lil more about it but I will say this now...

I listen to this all the time and everything just sounded, bleh off the laptop. The piano had no flare and was just meh but sounded great on my Polks. Now, the whole song just comes to life. The mids and highs are so crystal clear and it made the bass a bit more solid rather than sounding like a fart.... and unmuffled, my ears about jumped off my head to kiss me.

See ya shortly!
