Question about these work units...

Thread Starter
So, I've been folding since January, nearly 24/7 on my cpu and my 6950, using the v7 client. Usually everything just rolls merrily along, getting roughly 5 - 7k ppu. But every so often (to often lately) I'll get a 8001, or 8011 wu and they will just kill my output! I believe i read that these were actually uniprocessor wu's, but they're taking me 10 - 14 hours to complete @ around 8mins per fold.

I'm just wondering if maybe i've got my client set up wrong, or if thats just how these units are. I'm just running smp on my i7@3.9, and running the client-type/advanced on my gpu. Any help would be great! (I'm just mad that i'm starting off the FAT with an 8001 mad.gif )

I had those a lot for last 2 weeks, I even stopped folding on CPU, 8 days WU with 700 point with bonus just not worth it. Sad, but I run BOINC on CPU instead wink.gif

Yer everyone gets some really bad WU's sometimes. I have gotten some were it has taken 4 times as long and - 4000 ppd. And im like D: But yer it happens time to time. Then on the other hand you get awesome WU's that have like 5 min TPF and an extra 3k ppd. Then were all like biggrin.gif

I feel like that i7 950 should be getting more then that if you are including that in the total. If you have set up a passkey for smp I would imagine that you should be getting at least into the 10k PPD area but more then likely higher. As for the GPU if that is all you are looking at right now I would think that should be in the ballpark of the right numbers

Yeah, it peeked at around 11k around the last FAT, and seems to have dropped off pretty steadily since then.

Are you folding with a PS3 or so? At your EOC there a unit worth 146 points being submitted yesterday, it doesn't show up in Stanfords database of WUs and I haven't seen one like it. Your 6950 seems to be chugging along pretty decent.

You should reduce the number of cores your CPU is folding on. Edit your SMP slot to only work with "6 CPUs", for reference look at the image below. The reason for doing this is that the Radeon folding will require a core to fold and robbing a core from SMP will affect it by more that reducing the available cores for the SMP slot. This would leave you at 7 but some WUs will fail running 7 threads, hence 6 should be good for you.

It was my understanding that running the client-type/advanced was supposed to make Amd gpu's not draw off of the CPU. But no, all I'm running is my computer.for folding. The base points on the 8001 wu's is like 88 points or so though. I'm not at home, but I believe that was what the client said was the estimated points for those. I'll check tonight, but I will also try setting the client to 6 cores.
