Just GPU left

Hi Guys! last noobie question for me.

I got my money back today for the faulty 7900 GTX. So happy i can finish off my build by buying a good card.

This is what i have so far...

Mobo = ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe ATX SK775 Core2Duo PCI Express x16
CPU = Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Memory = 1GB Corsair Twin 2x512mb Sticks (800MHZ or PC6400)

GPU = Still undecided

My question is i'm wanting to try out a ATI X1900XT as i have bought two Nvidia graphics cards and in my life and had two die. Can my system support an ATI card? For some reason the Mobo has Nvidia stickers on it and the memory package also has an nvidia sticker.

I don't know a lot about this but doing my best to learn. My Mobo also says the chipset is a NVIDIA® nForce4 SLI x 16.

Cheers,

H

You can use an ATI card but you can't have CF because your motherboard has an SLI chipset. Also, if your going to be gaming then I suggest you get 2GB of RAM, more and more games now require alot of RAM so having 2GB will definitely help you alot

Roger that, i will probably try to get a 7900 GTX again then since SLI is still an option. I will definately get 2GB of RAM but i need to save pennies up again to get that extra gig. Can't wait to have this rig sorted as my dreams were smashed when i found i had a faulty card.

Don't go for the 7900GTX man, check out the EVGA 7900GTO on newegg. It's over $100 less so you have some $$$ left over, and it's essentially a slightly downclocked 7900GTX. It's easily OC-able to beyond 7900GTX specs as well.

Check it out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130065

AND HURRY! They're goin fast and prices are climbing! Up $10 in one day!

How about a 7600GT to keep you going until DX10 ?

Remember, DX10 cards have unknown PSU requirements. So you may have to upgrade your PSU if you want to wait it out till DX10, next month for nVidia.

Good CPU, and good RAM.

But why did you choose that motherboard? That nForce 4 chipset is really old now, and can't achieve a very high FSB.

C2D's have low multi's and so rely alot upon high FSB to get good OC's.

So nForce 4 + C2D = not very good overclock.

A 7900GT or GTO would do really nice. Although so would a single x1900xtx.

Considering DX10 is supposedly being launched in November, you might want to wait till then.

EDIT: Yeah, get a 7600GT. Cheap, and good performance. Would hold you over nicely till DX10 is released. Remeber, once DX10 is out it doesn't mean that the first DX10 cards will be any good.
