Very true Here's a quote from Xbit Labs...

The publication further claims that there would be two models at launch, which is claimed to coincide with the release of Intel’s quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme microprocessor in November:

* GeForce 8800GTX: 7 TCPs chip, 384-bit memory interface, hybrid water/fan cooler, water cooling for overclocking. $649;
* GeForce 8800GT: 6 TCPs chip, 320-bit memory interface, fan cooler. US$449-499;

So, If youre interested in DX10 and this beast of a GPU, then your best best would be to wait till November, and start saving your pennies... for both the 8800GT/GTX and a new PSU

If DX10 isn't really important to you, then I would go for the 7900GTO... Or even a 7900GT

But why did you choose that motherboard? That nForce 4 chipset is really old now, and can't achieve a very high FSB.

C2D's have low multi's and so rely alot upon high FSB to get good OC's.

So nForce 4 + C2D = not very good overclock.

A 7900GT or GTO would do really nice. Although so would a single x1900xtx.

Considering DX10 is supposedly being launched in November, you might want to wait till then.

EDIT: Yeah, get a 7600GT. Cheap, and good performance. Would hold you over nicely till DX10 is released. Remeber, once DX10 is out it doesn't mean that the first DX10 cards will be any good.
Thanks, yeah i went for that board because my selection was limited and i discussed in another forum that i won't be overclocking as of yet.
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...9315-mobo.html

So maybe it was a bad choice for the future but for what i could buy at the time it was one of the few options i had.

So you guys would go for a 7900 GT over a 7900 GTX? I would be saving myself a lot of money by going for a gt instead.

This 7900GTX i came across translates to $782 US dollars and from what i've looked at is quite a lot overpriced.

Extreme version just means it is factory overclocked?

Where as if i go for a 7900GT 512mb i just found one for $379.65 US dollars.

This doesn't sound like it is a bad price compared to us in Oz. Go 512 Mb as it does perform better than the 256 versions. I have done a few tests with the 7900GT 256 and the 512 version and as a comarison in the FEAR demo the 512 runs around 20-25 frames quicker.
