Any good game creation software?

I've been considering making a game, but I'm not good enough nor have the time to do it with C++. I was about halfway through learning C++ for role-playing games with Direct X and gave up. I now use the book to increase the height of my monitor stand lol. Anyways I've seen game creating software in the past, but was wondering if anything new had come out recently. I'm not looking for anything fancy, my ideal setup would be software designed for creating SNES-esque games. The two I've had in mind are an RPG (Like the original Final Fantasies) and an action platformer (like Castlevania). Any suggestions?

hmm flash comes to mind, if your willing to learn action script that is. Or you could try blender, its a 3d modeling program but it has a game engine that would work for basic things like platformers, but that would require more learning than flash (3d modeling + the game engine, physics maybe)

Eh, I've used Flash before but it seems excessive for my needs. I figured by now there would be software out there that's geared towards making SNES-esque games. Like what program was used to make I Wanna Be The Guy?

You could try RPG maker to make old school rpgs ala snes, I think that could be a good start.

Hmm some of those seem decent, but I was hoping for something more professional. I'm willing to drop money on this if I can find a worthy program. So far it looks like Games Factory 2 is my best bet. Although after researching I Wanna Be The Guy it seems he made it by starting with a ROM hack of Battletoads and then adding stuff in with Multimedia Fusion 2. I'd like to go this route because the graphic style and physics of that game are akin to what I'm interested in making for my action platformer, but I really have no idea where to start ROM hacking Battletoads lol. I still can't even beat the last level of that game.

I use the unity engine ts free and it works really good, the only downside is having to learn Boo programming but its easy if you know how to program in python.

Although your not going to get very far if you keep giving up. Things are difficult for a reason, normally the more difficult the better the reward once completed. If you want something easy look at Games Dev Story on the iOS and Android.

I have no idea what Boo and Python are. Is Python a prerequisite for Boo or can I jump right into it? The list of games powered by Unity look pretty cool.

Boo and Python are programming languages, Boo uses a python inspired syntax so knowing python can help with learning it but it is not a prerequisite for Boo.

Unity supports three scripting languages: JavaScript, C#, and a dialect of Python named Boo

So you have a fairly large choice of what you want to code in i just find Boo the nicest for what i do anyway
