[MT] AMD Will Launch Three New Bulldozer CPUs In Q1 2012 - Page 8

This is a repost and like stated in the other one they are suming the cache together. As you can see in the other thread there is the 8120 and 8150 listed as 16MB Cache.

Also, if anything is going to save AMD, if you think they need saving, is not PileDriver, it is going to be their APUs like Trinity and Brazos and whatever 3rd gen they got after that...

I am kind of interested in seeing what these newer BD's can do with more cache but with all it's current flaws with the CPU, I am not expecting much in single threaded performance but it should get some good gains in multi threaded performance which the current 8 core units do very well at. If it holds true that the 8 core is going down to 95W TDP, this is a good step in the right direction in bringing down power consumption. thumb.gif

The only thing I'm looking forward to coming out of AMD this year is Trinity and seeing if PD can be the big performance gain that the Phenom I to Phenom II jump was.

After reading this article from PCmag I don't see AMD succeeding in the long run. It may just be a matter of time and take delusional marketing that keep it alive.

AMD: what went wrong? - PCmag Author: Mike Jennings

Couple of quotes in the article. Follow link for the full four pages.
Quote:
Below-par products, legal issues, boardroom politics and supply problems: AMD is in a bad way.
Perhaps the biggest threat to AMD comes from British chip designer ARM. It already has the lion’s share of the smartphone and tablet processor market; now it’s expanding into PC territory too.
But if leaving the PC processor market is a step too far, drastic action is nevertheless required. AMD is 42 years old; it will need something extraordinary to avoid early retirement.

Personally I would never want to see a situation where Intel is the only supplier for x86 CPUs.

It's true, page 3 of that article covered how Intel's shady practices hurt AMD. AMD got their Billion Dollar settlement, but you can't entirely blame Intel for Bulldozer's performance.
Quote:
Light was shed on Bulldozer’s problems when ex-AMD engineer Cliff Maier spoke out about manufacturing issues during the earliest stages of design. “Management decided there should be cross-engineering [between AMD and ATI], which meant we had to stop hand-crafting CPU designs,” he said.

Production switched to faster automated methods, but Maier says the change meant AMD’s chips lost “performance and efficiency” as crucial parts were designed by machines, rather than experienced engineers.

Too bad because that's exactly where the world is headed.
