Living with Raidmax ......

Thread Starter
I recently (2months) bought a Raidmax RX-730SS. I was upgrading my gpu form a 4850 to a 6870 and though lets just be safe and "upgrade" my antec 500D to the raidmax 730watt, and what a deal on new egg! And look at all those glowing reviews, where is the checkout button?

All is still well until recently I saw something negative in a post . I began researching raidmax and started seeing some concerning phrases associated with the brand,,, words like "catastrophic explosion" and "grossly overrated power rating" and "total and utter crap".

So now I'm scared about fires and "taking down the ship with it" failures. Obviously I'm going to buy a better PSU, first thing on the list. The thing is I can't justify buying another PSU so soon. I'm hoping to use the raidmax for about another 4 months or so until I do a system upgrade and overhaul.

Do you think my sig rig (3.6 @ 1.26v) will not stress it out too much? OR should I just ditch it asap. I get mixed info from different wattage calculators

P.s Is there anything I can do to prevent it from destroying the mobo if it does spazz? I have it going through a regular computer surge protector but I have a feeling that won't help.

Sorry to tell you but that was not an upgrade, it was a serious downgrade wink.gif

Your system draws below 400W at full load, you don't need to buy a new PSU, just replace the trashy RX-730SS with the EA 500D you already have.

Cancel the order or return it ASAP. Your Antec is perfectly fine.

Raidmax is not the way to go for psus... or.. well anything really, but in all likelyhood it wont blow up your rig, or even itself, under proper conditions.

I really wouldn't be worried that a 400 watt machine is being powered by a weak 730. Sure, that 730 might only be 550, but its still more than you need.

Said 730W is a crappy Andyson 450W. The Antec EA500D is superior and more than adequate for your system as is. Cancel your order of the Raidmax, or deny the delivery.h

Thanks Guys,

I've have it for 2 months problem free (orig. post I put (2m) instead of (2months)), sorry for confusion.

I have taken delivery and used for about a month and a half so thats fine I'll deal with the loss. Looks like the antec 500D is going back in. Shame on you raidmax for advertising false power ratings!!! But shame on me for not researching first on overclock.net before buying wink.gif

I might take out that pretty blue led fan before I football touchdown spike it into the pavement.
