Help me choose a monitor.

Hey OCN, I am in the market for a new monitor but have no clue what one to buy.
Usually i get my monitors for free so i don't really care about the specifications.

However now that i'm actually buying one i don't want to make the wrong choice.
Currently have a 22" 1680x1050 LCD and looking for something bigger.
Will mostly be using it for gaming, All types that is mmo, fps, rts, racing.
Looking to spend around 200-$300 NZD, can push up to 400 or under if its really worth it.

Also is a 27" 1920x1080 more taxing on a gpu than 24" 1920x1080? I'm not sure of this as
they are the same resolution.

THANKS.

Edit, Sites i will probably buy from

Same resolution means the same pixels means the same rendering. This is a common misunderstanding. A screen's size has nothing to do with how taxing it is on the GPU, its only the resolution. I could have a 10" 2560x1600 resolution screen and a 9001" 2560x1600 resolution screen, they would have the same FPS (now refresh rate and ghosting is another story).

That being said. I would recommend something with low response times, i.e. <7ms. Not absolutely necessary, but a nice feature. LED will give you great contrasts and colors. IPS is beautiful, but expensive (and also has low response times, typically).

Its kind of hard to go wrong with monitors nowadays. Pick a reputable brand and hope they don't have dead pixels. I have AOC monitors (random brand) and they work really well and have a nice picture for the price ($380 USD for 3 of them). A Viewsonic monitor I have has a very crisp picture. I used to own a BenQ 27" and it was beautiful. I haven't had any bad experiences with monitors.

Thanks for that information, taking in what you said i have picked out a few that interest me.

AOC 27" 1920x1080: http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=259/ID=16271/SID=563840268/productdetails.html

Samsung 1920x1200: http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=507/ID=16549/SID=378274350/productdetails.html

ASUS IPS 23": http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=16297

Those are really the 3 things im trying to decide between at the moment,( not the specific monitor but the type)
They are all around the same price, however the Samsung is a bigger resolution, which i think would be better for games.

Will i get better quality using hdmi from my gpu to the monitor, as opposed to dvi?

The Samsung hands down. LED, cheaper, 24 is a perfect size, higher resolution, just overall a great choice.

HDMI and DVI are the same.
