Quiet budget HTPC

This is a duplicate of a thread I made on pvrs.net, becuase nobody is online there, I though it would be better to post it here
http://www.pvrs.net/showthread.php?t=81

************************************************** *******
Here is what I want it to do
-record tv(cable)
-burn recored tv to a dvd
-copy dvd's
-run orb
-have a remote(that contorls MCE)
-be able to play dvd's
-host a printer/scanner on my network(wifi)
-have a digital out (opitcal/coax)
-be able to use it as a computer with a wirelless keyboard/mouse
-be able to upgrade to blueray/hd-dvd
-look nice, and be slim/sleek
-need to be very quiet, almoast silent if possible

More info:
I will be using it with a 58' panasonic plasma, and a pioneer elite reciever(the cheapest one, $650), and a HD cable box. I dont really have a budget, but I would like to get the most out of my money, and I want it to do everything listed above. I was thinking I could get something like that for around $400-600. I prefer to buy stuff of newegg.com, but I dont mind other sites with good reputation.(zipzoomfly, frozencpu, tigerdirect...)

Will I be able to record HD content? How would I connect everything if I want to use HDMI from the cable box to the tv?

I will post pics of my setup when I get home today. But please reply if you have ANYTHING to say or add.
************************************************** ***********

Edit: here are some pics, I just got the tv recently, so I need to work on the wirering a little more, and hide the speaker wire. The tv looks a lot bigger in real life than on the pic, look at the AC pannel next to the tv for comparison. Anyways, I am probably going to get a differnet cabinet anyways, and the TV is going to be wallmounted. This is mainly just showing off, lol

Should I got intel or amd? If I went amd, I could just get a s939 opty 165-170, put it in my desktop, and put my 4000 in the htpc(awsom upgrade for me)

Copy of post at Pvrs.net

For the case I would go with the LC17, it's the one I'm leaning to myself. For the gpu the x1600 passive cool you linked is nice. For the keyboard the Microsoft one is what I use, but I am unsure as to if it will reach 20-25 feet, if not get the logitech MX5000, it's bluetooth and gets at least 30 feet. The E6300 will make a good cpu for this, matched with the P5B. Unless you plan on o/c'ing your t.v. basic ram should do the trick, at least one gig. Hope this helps ya a bit, I'll post it over at o/c.net for you to.

thanks, what do you think about going amd? can you try what is the range of you ms keyboard? I actually like the LC17 the least, it is big, and does not have a remote, what would I do to make the htpc silent?

Edit: right now, I am leaning towart the silverstone
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811163046
I am just worried about the psu being loud. Also, do I need a tv tunner card? why? I am going to use a cable box anyways, so I dont see a reasont to have a tv tunner card.
and what cable would I use to record stuff off the cable box? (is there a special card that just has component in?)

Edit #2: I just measured how far it is from the sofa to the tv, and it is exactly 16ft, will the MS keyboard rech that far?

As for the range it should do 16 feet, mines about 10 and it has no problems. For a remote, get the media center one from ms, you'll need it for the keyboard. Also both only work with mce. I'm not aware of a card with component in on it, but the happauge tunners are nice, they will bring in your regular cable w/o and problems, then you can use the composite for the extra channels. Unless you go passive cooling on everything there will be some noise, but from 16 feet you will not hear it. The reason I picked the 6300 over the amd's is it runs cooler and will not need a powerful hsf on it. You could run it with a 2u passive server hs on it with good air flow through the case. Also it's cheaper then the dual core AMD option you picked. While dual core is not needed for a htpc, I strongly reccomend it as there will be time that you are watching a show and maybe recording another or burning a dvd so it will help then.

well, I still dont understand why I need a tv tunner, if I am still going to need to conect the htpc to the cable box(HBO, on demand channels, ect). Can you link the MS remote? Is there any tunner card that has at least s-video in? Because I am afradi the quality of composite is going to ruin the dvds I will burn of the recorded stuff.(I can do that right?)

oh, and you said you didnt know what orb was, you should definatelly check it out.
