1. first up we have the Asus U46SV which is Asus's response to the Acer 4830TG
Price: $7000HKD

link: http://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=132410

2. Acer 3830TG
price: $5,700 HKD

link: http://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=137755

3. Acer 4840TG
price: $5450 HKD (no idea why its cheaper than the 13" model; maybe because of less RAM? shouldn't cost too much to get the shop to upgrade it to a standard 4GB)
link: http://www.price.com.hk/product.php?p=135646

All the laptops have the same SB i5 CPU's more or less as well as a standard 4GB RAM installed but the Asus has 8GB of RAM

I know that the Acer's have throttling issues that can be countered more or less but it needs work~
and I think I'd rather have something that just works out of the box

ideas anyone?

hmmm, took some time to look at the maker sites, overall seems that the hardware is very similar (few differences) but overall i would choose the asus. from what i hear the acer keys are a bit "mushy" and feel a step down from some other companies, What i do like about the asus also is that it has some aluminum in it for casing, personally i like laptops that have aluminum/magnesium or a unibody design.

biggrin.gif but just went to Hong kong this summer, usually go every other year to visit ppl from HKU, dancing, bars and to do my shopping. Very beautiful views too, one my fav places in the world tongue.gif ... want to go back to Shangri-La cafe too frown.gif

Definitely the Asus because of the way the keyboard feels, I've seen both the Asus and the Acer and I really like the feel of the keyboard on the Asus, the keys respond well and feels more sturdier compare to the Acer which has a bit of a mushy feel but that has been my experience with these two companies, although I have to admit the Acer seems to me like it'll be better price/performance value.

I've typed on a few Acer laptops and I would definitely choose the Asus laptop over the Acer just because of the keyboard. I have to agree with DNyAftr.

By the way how is the weather in Hong Kong during the month of April? Just an off topic question but I will be in Beijing China in April to visit my wife(She's working abroad for a few months) and then we plan to travel to Hong Kong for the rest of my vacation.

biggrin.gif thats what I thought as well.....better to go with something that works better of the box. I don't want to fiddle around too much anyway tongue.gif

weather in april...hmmm Hong Kong is quite a humid place~but april is definitely cooler than summer. In april avg. humidity is around 80%+ it only really drops lower during winter. If you need anything just shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do wink.gif

I do seem to have found another alternative though~not sure if its available in HK
the MSI X460DX http://www.msi.com/product/nb/X460DX.html#/?div=Specification
pretty much the same specs but from MSI~ still leaning more towards Asus as I love their laptops and general over service+quality

I'd personally go with the Asus if you need a pre-built machine. Otherwise I personally like and recommend Dell laptops.
