I know the acer's have trouble with cooling, the ASUS is probably better.

I don't suppose you can get a lenovo y470 or y470p, in the US they're about the same price as the acer's and don't have the cooling problems plus a better gpu.

Do they have switchable /optimus graphics options?
If they do I'll definitely look into those options

The Lenovo Ideapad Y470 has Nvidia Optimus, and the Y470p has AMD switchable graphics. AMD switchable graphics is almost as good, only downside there's a slight ~1 second lag when switching from discrete to integrated, IIRC. Then again, it's not like you switch between gaming and internet every 30 seconds, so it shouldn't be an annoyance.

The only downside of the Y470 / p is they weigh 4.85 pounds, compared to 4 pounds of the Acer 3830TG. The Asus U46 and Acer 4830TG weigh somewhere between 4.4 and 5 pounds, I forget. The upside of the Y470p in particular is that it has the best graphics of any 14" laptop, and it's the fastest laptop under 5 pounds. Oh, and it's only $800 USD with an i7-2670QM and AMD 7690M graphics.
