HELP - ASUS Sabertooth 990FX / 1600T (960T) Overclock

Hi All,

First post so be gentle! lol Seriously tho - im crap at explaining stuff so if none of this makes sence please ask for clarifaction!

Ok, here goes.... I'm becoming quite iriarte with this new (replacement) Mobo.

No matter what i set the OC to apart from stock and D.O.C.P ram profile option in the overclock settings it won't POST (from cold boot), then when i reset i get the "OC failed, press F1...." error.

I can OC the chip to 3.6 on 6 cores, pass prime and IBT but soon as i switch OFF and back ON again "OC failed blah blah blah!"

Even if i manually enter all the settings exactly the same as the DOCP RAM profile thingy - "OC failed blah blah blah!"

When i use the DOCP ram profile and all is fine - as soon i touch anything, even 200*17 to 200*17.5 "OC failed blah blah blah!"

Has anyone had a simular issue? atm im stuck at 3.0/3.4 x6 i know it can happily do more on my olde MSI GD80 it was stable @ 3.7 x6 until i over volted the MB-NB But with the ASUS, which arguably a better board than the MSI ive hit the wall already?

Anyone have any hints to help me get it 'stable'?

Thanks

Please don't cross-post threads. I've deleted your other thread but for future reference please keep threads unified to make it easier to find answers for others.

Ok, so dont really know what i did but after a late night last night i managed to get it stable at 3.8 (1.375v) on 6 cores with 2.2 NB. Temps peak at 55oC.

So my question is - what NB speed is an optimal ratio compared to core speed? Is just faster the better? or at 3.8 should the NB be somewhere like 2.4?

Im fairly confident on basic OCing, just the more advanced stuff im not sure about (i.e. NB speeds).

Also as i understand it, if im currently peaking at 55oC i still have a little headroom, assuming i can still get to ~70oC before starting to do damage - can i push it to 3.9 even 4.0?

Hey, I had some odd things happen with my 960T w/ ASUS M5A97. I can unlock all 6 cores on mine but when I start pushing the memory and northbridge frequency that when things can get weird with the board booting. After a perfectly fine windows session that was prime stable and pushing 10,000+ MB/s write speeds on the memory the board would just sit and the bios would not load. I would have to turn the computers power supply off wait several seconds and then boot which in the manual says is kinda of a safe mode.

So it may be memory related I was pushing my ADATA XPG 1333G pretty hard to get those numbers and that was with the nb frequency over 3000 MHz

Also YES the NB Freq is very important in reaching higher transfer rates on your memory as well as other things. It changed my windows experience score from a 9.5 to a 9.7 just from tweaking the NB

ultimitely I had to back off to 3000 and 1600 on the ram. I just can get the bios to be friendly much beyond those numbers.
