PC games aren't $10 at release even on Steam. If you're still paying $60 for your console games then they're either new releases or you're getting ripped off. It's fairly easy to find most console games discounted to $40, $30 or even $25 after a few months, which isn't much longer than it takes for big games to begin appearing in Steam's sales at anything more than a 33% discount.

Then there's the used market, which usually brings prices down much faster than retail.

I have never seen a older used game for less than 20$, where on steam that game would be 2.50-5$ during a sale.
I remember buying all kinds of accessories for my Xbox 360 which included battery packs, charging cables, hard drives, xbox live costs. In fact the main reason I hardly ever play my Xbox anymore is because of how expensive everything is. Heck I even tried to watch Youtube the other day on my xbox and it wouldn't let me without a gold subscription.
If I had continued spending money and playing on my Xbox 360 all this time since launch, I have no doubt that my costs would be 2500$ or more.
BTW yes I have two Xbox's also, I regret every cent I invested into that platform.

Even if all of the console games were $30 more instead of $10 more, that only adds $600 in my case, which puts the consoles' total far below my PCs.

Regardless, I get plenty of console games for $20-$30 used, so there is no way that all games were $30 more than what I pay for console. Given the worst-case scenario the PC still cost me more. Does that make my PC less valuable? Definitely not, I use my PC for business and a lot of other things than just gaming. But it does make the PC a more expensive gaming platform for me at least. If you spend your money right on PC you may be able to get it to cost less than a console, I'm just saying that the article itself is crap, they made it sound like PC gaming was always cheaper, hands down, when that is probably not the case for the average consumer.

You are also completely ignoring all of the other stuff that you have likely done with your PC's that you can't do on a console. I suppose all that is worth $0 is it?

I know for a fact that you don't get any better performance on a PC with a SSD... the game will load faster but it will not give you better "frames per sec."/FPS or better pictures... again this is saying you have 4GB+ of RAM.
I went from a cheapo HDD to a SSD that was over 100x faster and didn't notice anything other than I get into games quicker and load maps faster.

not ocmpletely true, large world games like MMO's with lots of players on screen, with standard HDD you tend to see a time in which the PC need to load textures from the drive , but whne zoning into a new region with 30-100 peopl enear by,m the HDD struggles to load it all and you get alot of stuttering FPS drops while it attempts to load all this, with the SSD I have recently installed, I see the amount of "Stutter" durring this initial loading of the area, is MUCH faster, and any new texture that comes into play is loaded almost instantly. i still have some stutter due to my GPU being just a little outdated especially when running 4x AA, unplayable for me at 8x AA =(.

on topic

So I read through some of this, doesnt seem liek its all the neccesary? I must have missed something lol

This is why I went full bore PC gaming roughly 10 years ago...PS1 was the first and last console I've owned. The total cost of hardware is debatable but the capability of the PC is never factored in. I highly doubt any one ONLY uses a PC for gaming. At some point you will at least browse the web or make a note in a .txt file at least.

I've said my self that when I can do my taxes on a console then I will probably get rid of my PC...since I will need a PC anyway, I might as well game on it.

but I don't get the benefit the SSD is giving the PS3. Are PS3s using something akin to a page file for graphics? In a modern game...that just wouldn't work would it? If you did it would be incredibly low on performance.

Skyrim was 75% off a month after it released. Rage was discounted much quicker on Steam than in stores. Not only that but when PC games get discounted they go on sale for far less than 30-40$. No decent game on console ever goes down to 20$ until at least a year.

Regards to the used market, well I don't see that lasting much longer. The corporations are making sure that happens. EA and BF3 for PS3 or 360 is a good example of that with the game being tied to your account.

I still don't agree with you that PC gaming is more expensive considering my experience with my Xbox 360's since launch. Maybe it hasn't always been that way, but things are definitely changing now days.

Maybe I've forgotten how much it cost me for my whole PC gaming setup but every time I go to buy a game for Xbox or PS3 I cringe at the price. The longer I game on PC, the stronger that feeling gets.

In my first post I mentioned that this is only my experience, depending on when you got the console, how many times you had to repair or replace it, what you paid for your PCs, how often you upgraded PCs, what games you got and when you got them, etc. Your experience might be different.

Further, saying you don't need to upgrade a console is false too. Original Xbox's came with 20gb hard drives, some xbox's come with no hard drives at all. Fact is you need a decently sized hard drive to play a lot of games properly, and you can't play any downloadable games without a large hard drive. I don't need to quote prices here, everyone knows how ridiculously overpriced Xbox hard drives are.
If I had continued spending money and playing on my Xbox 360 all this time since launch, I have no doubt that my costs would be 2500$ or more.
BTW yes I have two Xbox's also, I regret every cent I invested into that platform.

They also came with 8GB HDD's. I agree, consoles are too expensive and PC is miles ahead.
