As a piece of technology that is basically open for all developers, is open to modding, can handle pretty much infinite amount of controlling methods, and can also emulate consoles older than this gen I see no reason to say that consoles give a wider range of experiences than a PC.
Also claiming that there are more console games than PC games is ludicrous seeing all the flash games, the indie scene and emulators around.

Nothing else to add.

But what hurts consoles right now would be the big tv and sitting on the couch. Video cards have HDMI connections and LCD tvs do too. Also now that TV tech can do 1080P as the norm, hooking your PC up to your tv is worth the while now. Also the XBOX 360 control works with pretty much all games that you would want to use it on. So I can still relax on the couch and play PC games as well if I feel the desire.

But it's not the same thing. On a PC you have to go install the game and then download the patches to upgrade it. On a console you have to introduce the game and you're good to go. The console will do everything for you.

What do you mean? You only install the game once. Dont have to put in a disk and wait for its slow read speed to work.

Yes but when the game gets an update (lets say v1.01) you have to go online and download it and then install it. Pain in the ass.

A true gamer is neither hardcore or casual. A true gamer embraces all games for the entertainment they can provide and enjoys them to the best of his/her ability.

Also if you're trying to say that there are no HC flash/indie games then you're seriously mistaken.

Have you played a PC game in the last 3 years...be honest
post #19 of 250
PC gaming is more varied for sure. Indie games are more prevalent, most of the hot console games are also on PC, and my favorite genre, sim racing, isn't even represented on consoles (no GT5 and Forza don't count, they're not sims).

The reason why people choose consoles is simple; convenience and price. Its simply plug and play, and the consoles are cheap now that they are approaching the end of their life cycles. With a PC you have way more variables in the mix, many of which can cause issues that affect your gaming experience. For the vast majority of us on this site, these issues are no problem and simple to resolve for the most part. The general public does not see it that way though.

Some people state playing on a console, while relaxing on a sofa is more comfortable than playing on a PC while being sit down on a chair and some others may say that PC games have doors opened for the modding community. But the question is, which platform is better for a "true" gamer?
Well let's first define what a true gamer is. A true gamer won't qualify a game just for it's graphics. In fact, graphics is what a true gamer will judge at last. A TG will PLAY the game, not see how awesome the textures are, or how blurry they are. A TG will judge the story of the game, the gameplay of it, how varied and innovative it is and lastly how gorgeous it looks. But this last aspect will be defined by "unacceptable" "acceptable" "total awesome". Nowadays graphics are acceptable so for a true gamer the unacceptable word isn't on his dictionary. So in terms of grphics, a PC and a console it's going to be the same for a TG.
Games. A true gamer will like to be able to play the majority of the best rated games. And also he would like to play a wide variety of games, not only strategy or rpg games. A TG is not limited to multiplayer experiences. If we consider all this, a console (from this generation) has more varied games than a PC (on this generation). If we consider the amount of games the PC has from it's existence, we have to consider all the consoles that appeared since that existence with all the games available for them too. And if we do the maths, the console will always win, since consoles appeared before PCs. And yeha, a TG will own the most important consoles.
Money: As a TG will need to buy a lot of games, he will have to spend the less money possible on the device that's going to run the games. Consoles are cheaper by far than a gaming PC. So a TG will always prefer a console over a PC for it's price.
That's it. In terms of MP, for me playing online on PC and playing online on a console is the exact same experience. Maybe on xbox live you get more options, but overall it's the same.
So what do you think?

I disagree on almost every point. The statement that "true gamers" don't care about graphics is an opinion not a fact. "So in terms of graphics, a PC and a console it's going to be the same for a TG." No...Just no.

"A TG is not limited to multiplayer experiences." Says who? Is there some "true gamer" club I don't know about? Is there a committee setting guidelines here that we are all unaware of?
