Need a ~$700 Gamer Build!

Thread Starter
Alright so I know a kid who wants a new computer, and he says he wants to use it for gaming and homework.
He says he doesn't a need monitor, keyboard, mouse, or operating system.

I was wondering whether it would be better to go for a pre-built option or build a PC in this case? I want him to get the most possible computer for the money.
If pre-built, which company makes good pre-built PC's?
Thanks alot.

Budget is ~$700

I threw this together a couple of days ago for a friend who was looking for something in the $650-700 range. I'm sure you could squeeze a 6870 in there (maybe even a discounted/MIR 560 Ti if you're lucky) if you change a couple of things around - save a few bucks with a different case and possibly a cheaper mobo. Regardless, that should give you an idea of what you can get in that price range.

With that being said, Ivy Bridge and Kepler are right around the corner (along with the Radeon 7800s), so if he holds off for a month or two he might be able to get some more bang for his buck.

Tarun you picked RAM that is out of stock lol... and for the same price I'd choose Kingston, Corsair, or G.Skill over Samsung, at least something with heat spreaders?

EDIT: Also WTH why is that 2500k so much cheaper on that site lol, I seriously just bought mine and it was 229...

Ahh my mistake, I retract my previous statement biggrin.gif. That's actually pretty convenient that it's low profile since so many after market heatsinks take up a majority of the case. But even so, it's still out of stock on Newegg redface.gif.

I agree but with a few changes for me such as :
First of all your psu is to low for overlock especially that one with the green technology.
I personally would suggest this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171053 BUT if we want to keep it at 700$ you can
take this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171052

Second dunno how much accurate is the test with the rams from samsung but i dont think if anyone could buy these babies right here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173 or even better if you plan to overlock the i5 2500k which is the best cpu for your budget , these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233180 would go with samsung tongue.gif

And last but not least i know that Asrock have some good pieces in the 1155 socket but always for efficient overlock and stability plus some other usefull features i suggest this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131771R or AT LEAST this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131770R

Considering Ivy Bridge just got pushed back 'till Q3, that's not a great idea.

Tarun's got a good build. Burwij's is good too, I'd just beef up video card to a 560ti (or look on the marketplace here, you'd be helping people out + getting fantastic deals).
