Core Unlocking on MSI 790GX-G65 problem

So I have never tried it before. Trying it on my sig isn't going well. lol

More than likely my CPU isn't unlockable, but I figured I'd give it a try anyhow.

Problem: I go into bios and set core unlocking to enabled, set Advanced Clock Calibration to AUTO save and restart. PC comes on, but doesn't do anything at all, fans spin up, lights come on, fans spin down to where they are set to idle, and it just sits there for as long as I'll let it. No bios, no splash screen, just blank and no activity at all. Only way to solve this is to pull the CMOS and restart.

Am I doing something wrong? I have tried several times, and it's the same result every time. I figured if it wasn't unlockable it would just start up as normal. I can enable core unlocking and not advanced clock calibration and it will run fine, but if advanced clock calibration is on at all it won't post.

Any ideas?

Are you trying to unlock your Athlon II x4!?
Only certain Athlon II x4 (stepping number depending) can unlock the L3 cache (which doesn't end up making that much of a difference) - even then, it's not guaranteed that it is stable.

No Athlon II x4 can unlock cores except some variants of the 3Ghz 640 with the "R" at the end of the part number.

Thanks! Finally! lol

I didn't figure I could unlock it, however, now I'm just curious as to why my PC won't start with the Advanced Clock Calibration on.
