SSD x2 or x3 RAID over R4E

Hi everyone, I just want to know if it's possible to put 3 Crucial M4's in RAID 0 with my Asus Rampage IV Extreme. The question comes because the MB has 2 SATA 6Gb/sec running over the Intel controller and 2 SATA 6Gb/sec running over the ASMedia controller (PCI-E), so I'll have to put 2 drives in the Intel ports and 1 drive in the ASMedia port.
That said, will I be able to RAID the 3 units? thinking.gif

You can run 3 in RAID 0, you just need the third one in the Intel SATA 3Gb/s port, not the ASMedia. The ASMedia is a separate controller, thus the Intel SATA controller can not do anything with the disk on it.

But what about the performance? Remember that we're talking about 6Gb/s SSD's, there will be a big bottleneck for the third one surely frown.gif

2 of them in RAID 0 should be plenty fast anyway so you wont notice any real world differences between a single, dual or triple SSDs anyway. If I were you, I'd go for two and be happy. If not, then I'd recommend getting a dedicated RAID card which will give you better performance anyway.

Ok, I forgot the M4's and just purchased 2 ADATA S510 120GB 6Gb/s SSD's, I bought them from a local store in order to have local warranty. thumb.gif Now the problem is that I have both drives in RAID 0, so I don't have TRIM support, is there any alternative for TRIM?

Nope, but Garbage Collection still works fine without TRIM usually.

No way around not having trim in RAID.
