Same reason I've always wondered why For Sale & especially the following "Bump" posts count, they are not really "contributing" to the site content.
You could easily shave off ~200 posts from me just from my For Sale & "bump" posts:p

Agreed, I've been on a ton of forums and none of them tallied deleted posts toward user's totals. In fact I've never heard of any forum doing that ever... thinking.gif

True. Plus, for whatever it's worth, pre-migration we never had this issue. If a post was deleted the user's post count was docked by the quantity of posts that were deleted.

At the very least this bug / suggestion is to just move the post counting system back to what we had before if at all possible. It very well could be an issue with how posts are counted.. or something?

What if you wrote a legitimate post in a thread that got political for whatever reason and then the entire thread was deleted instead of scrubbed? I've seen that happen.

Thread Starter

Sure, in much the same way as you'll have legitimate, useful posts in OT. But it's up to the mod then; deleting posts rather than the whole thread is always an option.

This is actually how it's designed to work.  On the Huddler back end, nothing is hard-deleted, so everything is accountable for later on.  The posts/threads/forums that are deleted are just moved elsewhere or not visible.  Since they are still there, they count.  We've found across multiple sites that users tend to get way more upset when their post counts drop than when they stay the same.  As one user noted here "they still happened".  If a user who posted largely in a deleted area (say 3000 of 4000 posts), and that area is deleted, it's unfair to knock them down to a thousand posts or less.  The solution is not perfect, but it's what works most consistently across the platform, and is not a bug in the system.

Hope that makes sense.

(also there is just the issue of user groups/permissions/awards and the act of re-tallying post counts with every deletion...kind of a lot of hassle)

but....

Thats is a rediculous idea....

Post and threads get deleted and shut down for someone elses problem, why should someone who is posting legit items, Lose post count because an entire thread was deleted?

it makes no sense...

Thats like, what if you decided to clear up Server space, and delete all Threads older than 2008. Would mean id lose half or more of my post count , for what?

My Opinion - Is if I post something, I Posted it. Regardless of what I posted, and regardless of what happens afterwards, i still Posted something, thats a Fact!

You want Deleted posts to be REMOVED from a users post count? If so I do not stand buy this at all.. Hell i was unhappy when I lost 5 Unique +Rep's form the Server Move.... I only get about 1 a Dang Month these days lol

Dont Do it, keep it as is. a post is a Post, even if it Doesnt exist tomorrow.

That user you used as an example with 26 post, but 20 were deleted - whos to say they were deleted because he was cursing and Breaking TOS? Maybe he was in a thread where someone else cause an S Storm and got the whole thread deleted, how is it His Fault?

pretty much this. I've been told (in not so many words) that it's not a mod's job to clean up a thread, and where there is a breakage of the ToS it's basically too bad so sad for the posters. They're not going to go through and clean up certain parts, it's not their job so why should they have to do it. I don't like the thought of helpful posts being deleted or whatever because someone used the @ sign and $ sign a couple times to override the language filter. Frankly, I'm not gonna throw a tantrum about it because I don't care that much. I mean, I've had posts and rep removed before and I got it back, I just think it's ridiculous to potentially punish a person because of someone else. Better to err on the side of caution yes?
