Fixed, there's not too much AMD can do in a stepping to reduce power consumption of Bulldozer, it's mostly up to the fab and process improving over time now.

Sounds interesting. AMD becoming the first company to incorporate this new patent. Must be very easy to do if it did not interrupt their development schedule.

If this Pile Driver chip stays on the AM3+ socket I will consider it, but if not I'm going Intel.

Piledriver should work on current AM3+ motherboards.

which would be miraculous. Especially in single threaded apps where the new architecture does so horridly. Most games, nay, MOST PROGRAMS are single threaded. About 99.5% (made up number) of all programs we use regularly are single threaded.

EDIT- I'd love for PD to compete.. But it will do good to outdo the SB and SB-E clients. There is no way its going to be competitive with IB. And what is the price point on PD? It would have to be sub 300 dollars to be economically competitive. I want it. I just don't see it. I've given up on AMD until they release a CPU that actually does compete.

AMD CPUs compete already, they just don't win most of the benchmarks like Intel fanboys claim they should. They win some and lose others.

"It will be 4Ghz+"

So it looks like it's still a rubbish architecture with low IPC and AMD are just aiming to make up for it through sheer clock speed?

Intel tried that with the Pentium 4 vs AMD 64.... And look where that got them rolleyes.gif
