Help With i5 2500k and gigabyte ga-ud7 p67 b3 board overclocking for a noob - Page 2

hey dude, just increase the multiplier and the vcore will increase along with it, that is all you need to do. Remember if you screw something in the BIOS you can just clear the BIOS's memory through the clear CMOS button and it will be like nothing ever happened. please update your BIOS to the latest one on the gigabyte website. ONly update if the one on the website is more recent than yours. On GB naming for the BIOS it will be F1-F whatever, so F5 is more recent than F4. F5B is more recent than F5A, and only beta BIOSes have the letter after the number, and they go in alphabetical order.

Do one mulitplier at a time starting from 4ghz, then around 4.2-4.5ghz you might not be getting enoguh vcore, in that case you increase the vcore. Stay under 1.4v if you are looking for 4.5-4.8ghz, LLC is okay to use, try level 7 it will help increase vcore under load, as the vcore drops under load.

Enable CPU PLL Overvoltage.

okay thanks that's really good info... 2 questions for ya

1 ... so if i update my motherboard to latest bois and tweak my multiplier up what are the main things that i need, in order to monitor my PC so i don't blow it up or exceed manufactures warranties

2.... what is LLC that u mentioned and what does it overclocking actually do to the components of the PC ... pro's con's i guess you could say

anybody can respond just let me know

1. Make sure you have a good aftermarket CPU cooler installed instead of the stock HSF. Then, you need a few programs such as CPU-Z, HWMonitor, CoreTemp (for CPU temps only)...

2. LLC is Load Line Calibration (use for minimizing voltage drops or controlling fluctuations)... set differently can improve system stability (CPU).

Usually apply a 5mm to 5.5mm pea size at the center of the cpu cooler and tighten the bolts on cross directions evenly until just tight. thumbsupsmiley.png

For some direct heat pipe cooler like Cooler Master Hyper212+... it may be better to do two lines in parallel. wink.gif

As for thermal paste choice:

for cheap and great: MX-2 or MX-4

for expensive and best: Shin Etsu or IC Diamond 7

Try to avoid using AS 5 (Arctic Silver 5)... it takes 200 hrs to cure...

The temp difference between the cheap and the expensive is at most 1 degree to 3 degree Celsius if I recall correctly. cheers.gif
