The problem isn't if it's human eyes or robotic eyes, it's just the self-imposed righteousness Google has put upon themselves to view your emails, whatever they may be to someone else. It simply is an invasion of privacy. IIRC it's a federal offense to open another person's paper mail, why is electronic mail treated any differently?
Quite frankly, it makes no difference if this was Microsoft, Apple, or in this case Google, or even if your favorite company is Yahoo, there is no reason a company should be browsing your personal emails and then utilizing them to of all things hit you with ads.
