One of my RAM sticks is not functional/broken?

So I bought some of the "overclocking" RAM mentioned here --> http://www.overclock.net/t/1210482/amazon-samsung-2x4gb-low-voltage-ddr3-1600-kit-for-40-ocing-to-2200

And I put them in, and I get a black screen, doesn't boot.

So... I put one in, first time it doesnt work, I put the other one in and this time it works...

Is my first stick broken/not functional?

Any ideas appreciated.

try rubbing lightly the golden fingers on the RAM with an eraser.
did you try booting with other RAMs?

Yep, its definitely not the slot on the motherboard. Was the golden fingers/eraser thing a joke or are you being serious hahah

no, it wasn't a joke. I just repeated advice someone else gave, that actually worked, might have helped you smile.gif

yep the eraser thing might work for you, if not you will have to take them back where you bought them or RMA to the company that made them

Well I bought them on Ebay and the seller accepts returns within 14 days and pays for return postage, so thats fine. But its a shame I have to wait again :/

The eraser can remove oxidation from the metal contacts. Try run Memtest86+ from a floppy, CD or flash drive, on each DIMM to check for errors.
