Intel Q9550 + P45R2000 OC help needed @ 3.6Ghz

Hi guys,
I'm kinda new to overclocking, but I've been reading a LOT of stuff lately, but at the moment, I'm stuck.

Hardware:
MoBo: AsRock p45r2000
CPU: Q9550
RAM: Kingstom 4x 2GB DDR3 1333 CL9
Cooling: arctic cooling freezer 7 pro
GPU: Saphire Toxic Radeon HD6850

I've set motherboard jumpers to 1600mhz FSB as writen in manual:

(If you want to overclock the CPU you adopt to FSB1600 on this motherboard, you need
to adjust the jumpers. Please short pin3, pin4 for FSB2 jumper and pin3, pin4 for FSB3
jumper. Otherwise, the CPU may not work properly on this motherboard. Please refer to
below jumper settings.)

So that makes 400mhz FSB for my CPU, multiplier 8.5 = 3.36 Ghz.
I've changed the mobo pins, so that my ram would still be at 1333mhz.

At this point, everything is OK, CPU fully stable under load, 38degrees celsius idle, never exceeds 61 degrees on load.

But everytime when I try to go over 400mhz FSB in bios I get can not even load to BIOS part. I just restart... no screen signal. That happens around 410+mhz.
Between 400 and 410mhz I get BSOD.

I know that Q9550 is capable of over 4.0Ghz. I don't want to pusch it so hard... but 3.36Ghz is too little.

I would be really glad for any input, help, suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Yes Q9550 is capable of over 4.0GHz, but I think it's your motherboard that can't handle the overclock so well.

I know that my mobo might be the problem, but... officially it is capable of 480mhz FSB. Should I get another mobo? I also know that Asrock is not the BEST mobo ever smile.gif ...

Changing mobo wouldn't be a good option, I'd rather suggest moving to Sandy Bridge, or Ivy Bridge when it comes out. 775 boards with good overclocking capabilities are not available first hand, the entry-level G41s are, which won't be much of an upgrade if you ask me.

If you could find a ep45 ud3X mobo for cheap jump on it, otherwise wait for a good used SB deal imo.

Sorry guys for the late reply, It's just very hard to accept the truth smile.gif I've been fiddling with BIOS setting for my computer a bit... Try to understand me, in couple of weeks I'm going to buy i7 2600k, with ASUS P8Z68-V LX. I was reading couple of builds (with Asrock MOBO) that were pretty solid and Q9550 OC @ 4.0Ghz stable. AsRock is not such a bad brand, and P45R2000 is not a bad MOBO (according to reviews and capabilities).

I've managed to get my PCU at following numbers, with FSB: DRAM ratio @ 1:1... but at 430Mhz FSB it is not... well, at Prime95, workers 1 and 2 go off almost right after start, and intel burn test lasts for like one minute.

Temperatures are @ idle 37degrees C (98 fahrengeit)... load doesn't get over 60 C.

Screenshot of my setting:

Please try to help me and give me some suggestions... thank you redface.gif

I haven't seen jumpers on a mainboard in a long time.

Have you adjusted NB voltage? If you haven't touched anything but FSB, you need to read a guide and set up all the voltages manually.

#1 your DRAM frequency is reported at 425 which would be DDR3 900.

Thanks. Yep, I've adjusted and played with all voltages... tried to keep them in not very high value... but always resolved in unstable. At the moment I'm at 400mhz FSB as I was getting lot's of crashes...

Here is the note from AsRock manual for my mobo (on the jumpers for FSB) : "When you mount a FSB800 or FSB1066 CPU, and try to overclock to FSB1333 or FSB1600 (by BIOS setting) you may face the problem, that DRAM frequency will be overclocked very high. Please use jumper to force NB to be strapped at higher frequency, so the DRAM can work at lower frequency."

Yes, I left DRAM @ auto by BIOS settings as when I change it in BIOS to higher frequency it is again unstable. Even under 1333Mhz when Overclocked.
Here are my three options for DRAM frequency...

http://images.hardwarecanucks.com/image/eldonko/ASRockP45Review/BIOS/Lbios-4.jpg

1333Mhz on DRAM is stable when I'm on 400mhz FSB for CPU (with the FSB jumpers on my motherboard set to 1600Mhz) it makes 3400Mhz on CPU - 1333 Mhz on RAM.
But when I try to go abowe 400Mhz FSB on CPU it raises DRAM... and becomes unstable.... Even when I lower my DRAM speed to second step value, as seen on the attached link, to 533 Mhz...

Sorry, that I write so late... I was out of reach of my PC... Here are my CURRENT fully stable BIOS photos. (FSB on Mobo is set, as I mentioned, to 1600mhz - so my DRAM stays at 1333mhz).
If the stability issue is in mobo, I'm uprading :/
