Moving SSD from PC to PS3

Thread Starter
I currently have two SSD's in my PC, a 128gb Crucial C300 and a 64GB Crucial M225. The latter is currently a dedicated games SSD, however, I am considering moving the three games I have installed to the 128gb C300 (BF3, Civ5, Trackmania Canyon) as there is a ton of space.

This leaves the leaves the M225 for my PS3 (which is currently an 80GB fatty on which I store nowt but game data) for Fifa 12 and Gran Turismo 5.

* Is this a good idea in your opinion?
* Will switching HDD to SSD in my PS3 cause conflicts with DLC?
* Is it easy to do?

Any other pro tips?

You wont have any conflicts as long as you back your data up per the utility Sony provides and restore it, but I don't think the gain is worth it. I guess if you have NOTHING else to do with the drive, you could do that though.

I saw negligible results for most games, but data heavy games like GT5 seemed to prosper. TBH, I haven't got much to lose, I already have the drives so i'm not investing monies in it!

So, no conflicts with DLC right? I bought all the packs for GT5 so far and don't want tissues!

I dont see why you would. I swapped out hard drives in my PS3 and there wasnt any issues. It wasnt an SSD, but I cant see how that would be relevant. Theres a back up tool on the PS3 you can run, and once your new drive is in, you just need to restore it. Worst case scenario, keep your old drive to pop back in if theres problems.

I was thinking of doing this a couple of years ago. After some research, it seems the system will bottleneck the ssd into hdd speeds no matter what.

I say give it a shot anyways and see if it does indeed make a difference.

Yeah, I saw that for a few games... however it seemed GT5 benefited. Given I play it religiously and it won't cost me anything, I don't mind.

Anyway, I am going to make the switch, maybe tonight if I have the time. I need to do:

1. Switch PC games from D:// to C://
2. Backup PS3 data using Fat32 USB stick (hopefully my stuff is under 8GB)
3. Swap HDD to SSD
4. Format SSD
5. Re-instate backup data from USB stick.

Should be simple.

I'm looking to do this. I hope a 32GB memory stick is enough for my backup. That, and I'll uninstall a few games to make more space.

I want to put a Crucial M4 in the PS3 because I have a use for the much slower 5400RPM 250GB drive in there... and I don't want to spend money on new HDDs at the moment.

Edit:
Well, my 32GB memory stick is definitely enough.

Would it be safe to use the 250GB drive in my PC for a while (after formatting it on my PC) then put it back in the PS3 and restore it off my memory stick?
