# [ET] Tesla X will have two electric motors and beat a Porsche 911 to 60 mph - Page 11

So I did some napkin physics and made some assumptions.

Lotus Elise Weight: 755 kg
Tesla Roadster Weight: 1235 kg

This is a difference of ~38.9% from their reference model. Since there was no exact weight of the Model X, I used an analogous CUV; the Audi-Q7 for my approximations.

Audi-Q7 Weight: 2100kg
Projected Model X Weight: 2916.9kg (This only an assumption. It could very well be even heavier.)

Acceleration 0-60 in 4.4s: (in metric) (26.82 m/s-0)/4.4s = 6.096m/s^2 <-- Acceleration

F=ma --> F=(2916.9kg)(6.096m/s^2)=17781.4 N <--- Total Force

D=1/2at^2 = .5(6.096)(4.4)^2 = 59m <-- Total Distance

Power = work/time = (F*D/t) = (17781.4*59/4.4) = 238469.9 N*m/s <-- Total Power

1 N*m/s = 1 Watt (metric)
735.499 Watts (metric) = 1 hp (metric)

238469.9 W = 324 hp <--- Power needed to match suggested spec of Model X.

Compare this with the Tesla Roadster's 248hp at a weight of 1235kg. I suspect to reach that projected rate of acceleration for the Model X it would be daunting given the relationship between battery weight and power output.

For an interesting comparison I found this story about an electric Land Rover.

Quote:
Apparently built in a sort of partnership between Land Rover South Africa and a local Landie specialist Barker Performance Products for a tourism expo, the Defender Safari EV concept has an air-cooled AC induction electric motor producing around 80 hp and and 243 lb-ft of torque, by way of a 27kWh, 300V battery pack by Axeon.

Of course, the 50-mile range at 37 mph pretty much assures the E-Landie will never get far enough into the bush to capture any wildlife, either by rifle or Canon.
I've always secretly wanted to buy one of those old Land Rovers and drive it on the African plains.

Lmao, no. Otherwise, the GT500 would rape Nurburgring, and that's a pretty conventional track. Most tracks have less distance between turns and rely on proper suspension, weight distribution, braking, etc. rather than acceleration.

A huge part of 0-60 time is gearing anyway. Not really indicative of overall performance.

WHAT.

Most races aren't won in the corners, but the straights in between the corners. 0-60 time can make a huge difference in races. (although suspension, geometry, and many other things also come into play a lot)

I hope you're joking. Most races, aside from drag racing, are won by the car/driver that has the best cornering speed. There's a reason why suspension and brakes are the first things upgraded on a track car or any race vehicle.
