@hc_416 You must not know too much about cars. Having two motors power different wheels is a feat in engineering, and that's when they're the same exact motor. Trying to match everything together with a (presumably) 6/7 speed auto and a 1 speed electric motor would be too expensive to be feasible. Plus if you factor in that gasoline engines add weight (and lots of it) it makes the electric motor redundant and unnecessary (if not completely useless).

The Tesla could do what it did because it was very very light, and most likely this will apply to the Tesla X. It will probably weigh much less than similar size SUVs.

And if you have seen the Telsa review on Top Gear, practicality, efficiency, and reliability all come under question. Once again, probably the same deal for the X.

Actually I like my 0-60 time in my truck. I live in DC where people are jerks and if you dont take it, they will run you down, so I have a pretty good 0-60 for a truck at 5.4secs. And well rolleyes.gif lets be honest, I road race too with friends so 0-60 for red-lighting cars is kinda important to me.

I am impressed with Tesla, but I would never own one for many reasons, I dont believe that electric cars are any better for the environment than a normal car because of the way the batteries. And people can yell at me all day long that I dont care about the enviroment but I would rather drive my lifted 2500HD Chevy truck that gets about 10MPG rather than anything electric. Another reason I will never own an electric car is simply because I cant afford it either tongue.gif

For an SUV being available to the real world as a sleeper car to outrun a 911? I approve thumb.gif

Just because the OP chose a sensationalist publishing(the site is called extremetech... what did you think the article would focus on?) to quote does not mean that reasonable observations are suddenly invalid. You want some real info on the Model S? Here you go. It's not as entertaining a read, but it's a hell of a lot more informative. There's less known about the Model X since it's not out yet, but this will help people see where it's likely going.

EDIT: Here's the articles that site has on the Model X anyway. Like I said, not a ton of concrete info, but still better than extremetech. link

Sigh you seem to love nit picking. The point of this thread is to discuss about the article, if we're trying to discuss about another article then we would do so with another thread.

The thread itself is titled "Tesla X will have two electric motors and beat a Porsche 911 to 60 mph" and the article is as well titled the same. Thus we're talking about performance. Done replying to you as all you seem to do is nitpick everything.

No matter where you live, if you frequently go from 0-60 in less than 10 seconds, you shouldn't have your license. If you're about to get on an expressway, I could see 45-80 being important, but in no way does 0-60 matter in the real world. Even in a quarter mile drag, your truck probably pulls a 16-19-second quarter, where acceleration beyond 60 is what's important.

Everyone seems to overlook that the government handed Tesla a check for almost $500 million. For all that investment we get laptop batteries strung together in tandem placed in the body of a completely copied Lotus design at a price point well outside the realm of the normal consumer. Money well spent. This combined with the bricked battery fiasco has completely turned me off to any "innovations" that Tesla claims to make. On top of that they are asking for even MORE money. They are hardly the shining example of ingenuity and sound business practices.
