Hey guys, been lurking here for a couple of weeks now and I'm finally good to go (cash wise) for my first build.
This build is for my school work as well as games like Skyrim, Mass Effect series, Diablo III and probably many others (I'm just getting back into PC gaming after many years of console gaming). 1080p resolution will keep me happy.
I have most of it planned out but some input from you guys would be great, I just wanna be sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck and not wasting money anywhere.
Budget is $1200 incl. tax (will be $60 max), Canadian for everything, I need HDD unfortunately as well as a keyboard and monitor (I have a mouse at least), I MAY consider SLI at some point in the future but I'm not 100% on that, also plan on OC to 4-4.5Ghz.
Unless there is a good reason not to I will just be buying from Memory Express here in Canada (it's close, no shipping to deal with and from what I've seen prices are basically the same as any website I have found).
Here's what I've come up with so far:
CPU/MOBO combo:
i5 2500k/Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3 - $379.99
or
i5 2500k/Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 - $349.99
CPU Cooler:
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO - $34.99
RAM:
2x 4GB sticks Corsair Vengeance LP 1600Mhz - $49.99
GPU:
eVGA 560ti 2GB - $284.99 (-$20 MIR, so $264.99) Critique definitely appreciated here, would like to stay nvidia, picked the 2GB because a 448 core won't work with the budget and I heard SLI only uses memory from 1 card, so this would be a better choice for that?
PSU:
Corsair TX750M - $104.99 (Not too sure if this is overkill or a good choice. Also is fan size compatible with vent hole on case?)
HDD:
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 7200rpm - $89.99 (ridiculous but I'm coming from a laptop which I would like to keep functional so I need it)
Case:
CoolerMaster HAF912 - $59.99 (Picked for airflow, cable management and space, also seems to be highly recommended on a budget)
Optical Drive:
Samsung SH-243D - $26.99
Keyboard:
Logitech MK120 - $19.99
Wireless Network Card:
Suggestions would be appreciated here as I've had some ridiculous issues with these things in the past, even at close range (disconnect every 30 seconds is not cool).
Range is not an issue as the router is right behind me but due to the configuration of the room it isn't practical for me to run a cable to it or move it.
$39.99 as a placeholder value for this.
Monitor:
Asus VH236H 23in 1080p - $179.99 (-$20 MIR, so $159.99) Chosen for size, 2ms response time and because it looks like a good monitor, feel free to offer suggestions (may need to go cheaper) but I would like to keep size at around 23in if possible.
Total so far with the more expensive Asus board in the budget, is 1271.89 before tax and before $40 of MIR's.
Obviously I'm a little over my budget so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys and sorry for the long post.
Edit: Also Calgary NW/NE is the region I'm in so parts will need to be in stock in one of these two areas.
