Goodbye onboard, hello <?>

I am planning on purchasing the ASUS Xonar DX sound card for $70
and a pair of headphones that don't require an amp.

I was looking at the Audio Technica M-50 for $113 shipped.
My listening is pretty balanced. I occasionally game, and listen to a wide variety of music.. From rap to classical, jazz, rock, trance, house, etc.
My environment is pretty quiet so I think I will be OK with opened headphones, although I do prefer some isolation sometimes..I really don't want to spend a ton on audio. The less, the better, but I also don't want junk.

Headphones in consideration:

ATH- m50 if you play games that are not FPS.

Suplerlux or ad700 for FPS.

Open headphones for fps, closed for everything else is how i like it.

Open gives you more positional clues. While bassy close head phones make RTS and MMO' etc sound more "fun".

I would go for super lux because i think they are semi closed. So they should cater to both genre pretty well and to your music taste pretty well.

I seldom play FPS, and when I do it's either Battlefield or TF2.
I do enjoy a third person shooter, APB (it relies heavily on sound)

I opened up foobar and noticed that most of the music is pretty bassy but my mood decided my music choice so it varies from time to time.

I'm a big movie freak so I watch a lot of movies.

If you know a headphone that fits my needs then I would love to know about it. I would prefer it be under $100. I used to own a pair of Denon AH-D2000 but I sold them after 3-5 months of usage because I could not justify the price I paid for them and I did not really have anything to drive them.

I must do this sorry.

I have the A700's(closed) and I enjoy them, however I don't have a soundcard at the moment so they are kind of going to waste. But I would definitely recommend the AD700(Open). I really wish I had bought the open ones. A much better soundstage. Gives you that ambient feeling

Haha, I didn't even realize what I said. That picture made me smile.
I've always been looking at the AD700 but unfortunately, they are a bit over my budget.
