6990 Clocks reset to default?

So I managed to OC my 6990 to 940 / 1420 but for some reason, it sometimes resets the clocks to default, and when I go back to MSI afterburner to turn it back on, it defaults instantly when I hit the apply button. I have have the clocks saved as a profile in CCC and on auto-apply in MSI afterburner. Is it because the clocks are unstable or smth? Anyone happen to know what is the average maximum clock of the 6990? I'm not sure if its because its unstable though because it doesn't really matter what numbers I put in and it still defaults immediately.

Start with a low overclock, test it, and if it's good then move up from there. Take small steps. At higher overclocks you will probably need to fine tune the voltage.

So the problem is because of a too high overclock or what?

Possibly, won't know for sure unless you try it.
