Hi, I'm not necessarily looking to do this right now but I'm getting pretty close to the point where my CPU may need upgrading.
Basically I have a Phenom X2 550 unlocked to an X4 B50 and running stable at 3.5GHz. The main issue is that my Mobo only supports up to a Phenom 970 according to the ASUS website which would barely be an improvement and definitely not worth the cost unless the OCing potential would make a huge difference.
Obviously I had looked at the Phenom 975/980 but that would require a new Mobo and then I could switch to Intel although I'm not sure that the Intel option would be better than a Phenom 980 which could potentially yield 4.0Ghz+. Then I may have to replace my Zalman 9700 cooler though. I could go on...
Just wondered if anyone had an input or would just like to have a discussion about the merits of the different options around what would be the best bang for buck with future proofing in mind for under £200 for mobo/cpu.
Thanks.
