I will say this. After having worked as a mobile repair tech for Dell for two years. If you can get a Dell with "complete care" (which is complete coverage you could literally drop kick the machine off the empire state building and they will send a tech out with parts or depot it free of charge)

Although I wouldn't recommend a consumer grade dell without it.

Lenovo Z570 is an easy choice for a clean design, slim bezel, good ergonomics etc. I'd say, 2nd choice perhaps Asus or Samsung. Really feeling the new Samsung models, they all have high-quality batteries that last for 1500 cycles while holding 80% of the charge. Oh, and they're pretty light for 15" laptops, at 5.3 pounds. Tested at 6:25 of battery life http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2387960,00.asp .

To answer battery life difference between Llano vs. i3, they're approximately tied, but I think i3's have a slight edge. The bigger issue is battery capacity, and the specific laptop model. Performance, well, i3 will feel a lot faster due to higher single-threaded performance. You can Google it yourself, but it's pretty much common knowledge.

Edit: I have no clue which is higher-end between the Samsung RV520 and the 3. But hey, this is cheaper, and it has a 1.3MP webcam instead of 0.3MP. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-3-NP300V5A-A03-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B0056EY7JA/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1329960255&sr=1-8

Oh it definitely gets pretty warm when gaming, but for normal use its very cool and quiet.

The problem with the computer reliability study (http://www.rescuecom.com/computer-reliability-report-2011-q1.html) is that the numbers are based on repairs rescuecom has performed, and we don't have those numbers. Same issue with the old SquareTrade chart of reliability, it was only based on users who bought extended warranty plans. If you wanted real measures of failure rates, we'd have to get the information directly from manufacturers based on RMAs

That said, all brands may have their lemons, and many have learned their lessons. Find a good bang-for-buck machine with good reviews? Get it

get the llano if you're doing gaming
get the i3/pentium if you're not
