Now that is the type of essential information i was looking for, i dont wanna be short on vram but i dont wanna overdo it either. Anyways ill presume your right and go ahead and order it tomorrow.

7950 can't be pushed to 7970 speeds to. Really it's the card to get in the 7900 line.

I can't afford a 7970.

I don't think it is overkill for a 1080p single monitor--especially if you ever get a 120hz monitor. I would also pay premium for the extra vram--if you're already spending that much, I wouldn't potentially hinder your already large investment by trying to save a few bucks at the last moment, you may regret it later if you ever end up needing a little more vram. I say, if you're going to get a 7950, do it right and get the good one.

A 120hz monitor is not on the agenda. The Sapphire 7950 OC isn't the best choice?

Here is some inside info from my experience, I had a msi 560ti (880mhz) and went to the gtx570 when bf3 came out since the 560ti could only do high on bf3. Well the gtx570 (i play at 850mhz) can average 60-70fps on 64 player matches on ultra with msaa off at 1080. That said, the 7950 which is mostly faster than a gtx580 will be more than enough. I dont think we will see leaps forward beyond what bf3 provides till next gen consoles release since the trend seems to be cheapo console ports for pc lately. Vram is a hot topic it seems but with a single 1080 monitor the 3GB that the new amd cards have are more than enough.

I would stay away from the 77xx series unless you plan to CF from the start, I havent studied them a lot but they seem to be 2-3fps behind the 560ti.
