First time WC setup.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so I'm well aware, I'm good at posting commonly asked questions. Sadly, my rig is a bit different then most peoples. I've got a mountain mods U2-UFO case, which from what I've figured is going to make water cooling as much as a pain as my wire management is!

So far all I have is an XSPC Dual Bay 5.25" Res. It's the split style, so it has four threaded barb holes on the back.

I'm looking to only cool my CPU for now. But soon enough I'll be getting a GTX560 and plan to WC it as well.

I guess my biggest question is should I do a 120 Rad or 360 rad if I'm just cooling my CPU? It's at stock clocks right now just because I haven't felt like OCing it again after I reinstalled all my gear I wiped my 4.1GHz OC.

And then....

If some one could kind of lay it out for me. What rad to use, which fans to use for push/pull, what barbs to order, what block to order, and what pump(s) to order.

All help is appreciated and worthy of rep.

Going to need to know exactly what you're working with space-wise.

If your res is split, you could potentially do dual loops, but that's more complicated :/

For just a CPU, you'd ideally want something like an EX240 depending on the CPU and OC. If you're throwing in a 560, two 240s would be a great choice or a 360 + 120.

Rads are a matter of preference. I'd recommend the EX series, SR1, or RX. This is a good reference: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157540
Fans are a matter of preference as well. If you have a fan controller, the Yate Loons can't be beat for the price. Other good choices are Gentle Typhoons (AP-15s), NoiseBlockers, NZXT (surprisingly), some others. More reference: http://martinsliquidlab.org/2009/05/05/r2-fan-testing/
Barbs are up to you. Compression doesn't need clamps, but is more expensive and I've had more issues with them. You just have to pick an ID and stick with it. I use 1/2", up to you.
Block is all about equal IMO. I use the EK Supreme HF (a tad pricey), but the XSPC Rasa block holds it's own. Reference: http://www.overclock.net/t/749693/review-22-cpu-waterblocks-tested-roundup
Pumps are a hard one for me to decide on. I would recommend a variation of the Swiftech 355 (you'll see a bunch of tops for it) if you are only CPU and rad. Since you wanna do CPU + GPU, you might check out the MCP655 (aka Laing D5 and many other things).

Any more questions? smile.gif
